Well, her winter coat is off, she's freshly washed, waxed and painted and near ready for splashing this coming Saturday.

It's been a long, cold, bitter winter but warm breezes, gentle waves and beautiful sunsets lie ahead.

Knot on Call is being readied to embark on a new season of adventures, introducing those new to sailing to the pleasures that this pastime and lifestyle have to offer, as well as helping more experienced sailors further their knowledge, skills and capabilities.

There is still time to book with us, as we have a wide range of course and session offerings that are tailored to both those seeking recognized credentials and those looking to learn and experience sailing in a less formal, more relaxed way.

Well, Spring is here, the winter coat will soon be coming off and we splash later this month. Then we begin the prep for the new sailing/teaching season.

We at North Shore Reaching are looking forward to our ninth season meeting like-minded individuals and helping novice and experienced sailors alike gain new insights, knowledge and skills, or refresh and hone knowledge and skills as they pertain to keelboat sailing and sailboat cruising.

We invite you to join us whether you're just starting out or you have built time and experience on the water, as we have course offerings and learning opportunities for all.

Courses and dates are filling up so we encourage you to reach out to us if you have interest in making this the summer you discover sailing or take that course you've been thinking about but have been putting off.

On this, Christmas Eve, we at North Shore Reaching would like to wish everyone Merry Christmas, Joyeux Noel, Feliz Navidad, a belated Happy Hannukah, and offer best wishes for the holiday season and the year(s) ahead.

We would also like to take this opportunity to once again thank all those that have sailed with us and have helped make North Shore Reaching a success. We have eight seasons under our belt now, and couldn't have done it without the support, participation and encouragement of clients, staff and friends.

And remember, now that days are getting longer again, a new sailing season is on the horizon.

Well, another successful season has come to an end.

Once again, North Shore Reaching would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who joined us and made our 8th season another one where we were able to introduce many to, and reinforce for others, the joy of sailing and sailboat cruising.

From beginner lessons and courses to more advanced offerings, we were fortunate to have been in the company of so many congenial, motivated, passionate and like-minded individuals that again made it a pleasure to do what we do.

This season we added a new destination to our week-long itinerary; Main Duck Island, a little peace of tranquil beauty on Lake Ontario, near the Canada/U.S. border south of Kingston. Some pictures of our times there are shared below, as well as some other locations passed/frequented.

We wish all who will be continuing their sailing adventures through the winter fair winds and following seas, and for those who will be landlocked until next season we wish you a pleasant off-season filled with dreams of adventures to come.

And we are launched for the 2025 sailing season!

We started yesterday evening, launching 15 boats until dusk and started again at 5am today in a successful effort to beat the pending storm. We still have work a fair bit of work to do below and on deck (annual general upkeep) but the engine starts right up and purrs thanks to Andy’s meticulous maintenance. We even managed to get the anti-fouling on and wax the hull (wasn’t it still snowing just last week?!)

And no, the boat can never be too shiny!

Finally! The weather allowed us to remove the winter cover today and start some cleaning and engine maintenance in preparation for the boat's launch on April 29. I've learned a lot about boat cleaning over the years - use the right product for the right job would be my number one recommendation! My choice fiberglass stain remover cleans the stains off with little effort (if StarBrite sees this post, I'm willing to enter into negotiations for endorsing your products; just sayin').

We at North Shore Reaching have always been apolitical; offering American-developed and sanctioned sailing courses in Canadian waters, for those that want to learn, or enhance, knowledge and skills related to sailing, so that they may partake of the benefits and joys of the sport locally, nationally or internationally.

We pride ourselves on being a wholly Canadian owned and operated sailing school, with instruction by Canadian instructors who focus on safety, learning and having fun.

With the imposition of the tariffs by the U.S. government, we would like to reaffirm our commitment to providing the best in sailing instruction and learning to clients from both sides of the border, with pricing that remains competitive and realistic, with no tariff-related price increases.

We are a small business, support Canadian small business and continue to hope you will support us.

As we come to the end of February, we at North Shore Reaching know that many of you out there suffer from SAD (Sailing Absence Disorder) and we here are not immune ourselves.

So, to pick up not only our spirits, but those reading this as well, we offer the following;

The sailing season will soon be upon us again, with April being a month of prep, weather depending, and launch soon after.

Also, some photos from our 2024 season to offer counterpoint and respite from the winter, as well as wet the appetite for a new season for experienced sailors and novices alike.

And if you are a novice to sailing and would like to learn more, or engage in this incredible sport and lifestyle, contact us and let us be your facilitator to this new adventure.
