Spending March Break coaching some pretty stellar students makes celebrating sixteen years of teaching even better!
SpellRead creates strong, confident readers in students of all ages. More than just tutoring, SpellRead develops life long skills that make the difference
The SpellRead program, created in the Maritimes by retired school teacher Kay MacPhee, offers students mastery of a phonemic and phonetic code that allows them to decode quickly, solidify reading fluency, and improve reading comprehension. Writing skills are developed through the application of the sound system, bridging the auditory and visual memories to the written language. SpellRead is a successful, rounded approach to developing efficient literacy skills.

What a wonderful way to wrap up a very successful Spring Session! Congratulations to Abbey and Will-Jay who both just completed their amazing creative writing stories. When asked if they knew they were capable of such a great accomplishment, both shook their heads, then smiled full of pride in themselves! Well done, you two!

Today, we celebrate Michael's wonderful achievement: winning his grade's Heritage Fair! Michael wrote a wonderful and engaging report on one of my favourite areas of study, and absolutely smashed it! Way to go, Michael, and best of luck at Regionals! I am so proud of you!! :)

It is truly a heartwarming moment when one of your students decides to not only share their experience in the SpellRead program with all of their classmates through their speech festival, but also brings it in to class to present it to me! Nick very lovingly and conscientiously crafted his speech detailing his time at Shore Side. What a proud moment--Thank you, Nick! :)
"Hi, my name is Nicholas and I am here to talk to you about SpellRead. SpellRead is a program to help you with reading and writing. SpellRead has made me more confident with myself in Language Arts. The SpellRead program focuses on developing the student's mind. Before you start SpellRead they do an assessment on you. The book I am reading in SpellRead is 'Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief.' This book is one of my favourite book series. SpellRead has helped me a lot in my reading. That's why I am at this high of reading level. What I do when I go to SpellRead is I start with some flash cards of consonants and vowels and I read a book. After I am done reading I write about what I read. When I am at SpellRead I work one on one with my SpellRead teacher, Tara. SpellRead's main focus is to develop letter-sound relationships. My favourite part of SpellRead is reading. I learned to keep my finger on the page. SpellRead helps to develop your brain. SpellRead is known as a successful program. Students and educators see progress from the first lesson. SpellRead has helped me read out loud in class and develop a greater love for reading. Thank you for your time. I hope you liked my speech."
