CELEBRATING OUR LIC STUDENTS
Last week, Practice Here Now and the South Shore Health Foundation had the absolute pleasure of celebrating the accomplishments of our 6 Dalhousie Medical School LIC students as they finish up their third year of study. These exceptional medical students have spent the last year living, learning and loving the South Shore, all while growing in knowledge and confidence, and experiencing all that rural medicine has to offer.
Although all of our learners had an impact in our community, two of our students were recognized for contributions that went above and beyond - Allison Flowerdew, Community Outreach Champion Award, and Tanaka Oyefodunrin, Patient Champion Award. Congratulations to you both!
This was also an opportunity to celebrate the incredible preceptors we have, and thank them for all the work they do to support our LIC program. Across the three hospitals and many family medicine clinics we have over 110 dedicated physicians teaching and mentoring our next generation of doctors. Although all of them are exceptional, three were recognized by the learners for their contributions - Dr. Todd Stoddart, Dr. Dar Kiamiri, and Dr. Reza Ghaffari.
Thank you to Lightship Brewing Company for the amazing venue and delicious lobster supper! We couldn't have had a more beautiful night!
To the students - AJ Hennenfent, Adrienne Gaudreault, Allison Flowerdew, Sam Moore, Brianna Legere, and Tanaka Oyefodunrin - we wish you all the best as you continue on your medical education journey and sincerely hope to see you back on the South Shore. It has been a wonderful year and we will miss you!

WELCOME NEW RESIDENTS!
This week, Practice Here NOW (South Shore Health Foundation ) had the privilege of partnering with Dalhousie Family Medicine Residency Program to welcome our three new Halifax/South Shore Family Medicine Residents. Dr. Onai Sharif and Dr. Kalei Crowell will be based out of Liverpool and Dr. Kristyn Reeves will be based out of Lunenburg.
Joining us at the lunch was one of our second year family medicine residents (R2's), Dr. Liam Redden. It was a great opportunity for the residents to connect and for Dr. Redden to impart some wisdom about his experiences so far.
Shout out to the 27 South Restaurant, Lounge & Catering for a delicious lunch on their fabulous patio.
Please join us in welcoming these residents as they continue their medical education journey living, learning, practicing and playing on the South Shore!

Practice Here Now and the South Shore Health Foundation is so proud to support Nova Scotia Health in the attraction, settlement and retention of physicians and their families on the South Shore. Together we are improving the health outcomes for the residents of our communities.
More doctors. More access to care. Stronger healthcare for Nova Scotians.
Nova Scotia welcomed 278 new doctors between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, resulting in a net gain of 199 physicians practising across the province.
This milestone reflects the collective efforts of healthcare teams, government, communities, recruitment consultants and many partners across Nova Scotia, all working together to improve access to care.
Thank you to everyone whose collaboration and commitment help make Nova Scotia a place where physicians choose to live, work and become part of the communities they serve.
Welcome to Nova Scotia! đź’™

Last week Practice Here Now and Nova Scotia. More than Medicine+ had the pleasure of taking out our six Dalhousie Medical School LIC students and one of our family medicine residents for an afternoon of kayaking. Guided by Karl at Pleasant Paddling, we had an amazing tour through the islands around Blue Rocks. Highlights of our paddle were seeing the ospreys in the nest, taking the "secret passage", rock skipping, learning to use a shell as a whistle and seeing the Bluenose II sail by.
Experiences like this, besides being a nice break from their studies and work, give the students a chance to see a little of what the South Shore has to offer, and helps them to envision what their futures could look like as physicians on the South Shore.

Please join Practice Here Now and the South Shore Health Foundation in welcoming Dr. Olakunle Ojubolamo (Dr. Ola as he likes to be called) to Nova Scotia. Dr. Ola and his family relocated here from the United Kingdom, and he will be working at South Shore Regional Hospital. We are so happy that they chose the South Shore to live, work and play!
If you see Dr. Ola in the hospital or the community, please extend a warm South Shore welcome!
