Brant Toastmasters is recruiting brave operatives for Comedy Night September 28, at 6:45 pm. Location is Charlotte Villa Retirement Residence, 120 Darling St. (Lower Level), Brantford.

Your mission: deliver a 4–5 minute stand-up routine and leave the audience in stitches. No prior comedy experience required, just your courage and creativity! Think you’ve got what it takes?

What do you get when you combine perfect picnic weather, paper plates, punch lines, and a bunch of quick-thinking Toastmasters? One seriously fun evening at Mohawk Park!
BEST TABLE TOPICS
Our members tackled the delightfully quirky theme “Paper Plates and Punch Lines” and tried to deliver funny, punny answers to questions like:
“What is the first punchline you say after sipping an ice-cold punch that caused you to become the funniest person at the picnic?”
“If you’ve been challenged to a duel and could only use a stack of paper plates as ammunition, what would you do to win the fight?”
Tricky? Absolutely! But that’s the point. Table Topics helps us sharpen our on-the-spot thinking, creativity, confidence, and ability to keep talking when our brains are screaming, “I have NO idea!”
BEST SPEECH — Atinuke Anifowose
A huge congratulations to Atinuke Anifowose on delivering her icebreaker speech — her very first speech at Brant Toastmasters! Atinuke took us on a fascinating journey through her love of discovering different cultures, artifacts, trends, and foods. Of course, there was one little downside to all that exploring: going down rabbit holes! But sometimes those discoveries brought something even more special — sweet memories of home, Lagos, Nigeria.
BEST EVALUATOR — Angela Alexander
Big cheers for Angela Alexander, whose evaluation hit the mark! Angela was moved by the vivid phrases and descriptions Atinuke used to bring her story to life. She also recognized something impressive: Atinuke delivered her first Toastmasters speech under less-than-ideal outdoor conditions — no lectern, uneven ground, and no outdoor microphone! WOWSER, she did it!
That’s Toastmasters in a nutshell: learn, laugh, adapt, encourage, and keep growing — wherever the lectern happens to be!
Perfect weather. Great stories. Quick wit. Plenty of laughs. And a whole lot of Toastmasters spirit!

I really enjoyed my time as a member of Brant Toastmasters. I remember this meeting because even though ony a few people could make it, we held a meeting anyhow. There were speeches and evaluations, and I think we even did table topics.
I took a selfie because there wasn't anyone else to take the picture.
What a fun meeting that was.

HOT NIGHT, COOL VIBES! Brant Toastmasters — August 10, 2026

It was a hot night outside, but definitely cool inside as Toastmasters members and guests gathered for an evening of laughter, learning, and RELAXATION!

Table Topics Winners — Angela & Len
Angela Alexander and Len Makkreel shared entertaining and thought-provoking stories about relaxation and married life.

Len, a retiree, explained how his wife helps keep his relaxation time properly managed—making sure he doesn’t miss those important appointments! Picture the neck turning the head… that’s how well it works for Len!

Angela shared a more thoughtful story about how a seemingly relaxed spouse began to lose some of their usual spark. The good news? They recognized the warning signs, didn’t ignore them, and were able to turn things around—returning to a healthier, more relaxed lifestyle.

Best Speaker — Michael King
Congratulations to Michael King for his engaging speech about writing a compelling blog! His candid look at the highs and lows of blogging opened our eyes to just how challenging it can be to capture and keep an audience.

Best Evaluator — Lilly Senko
Lilly did an excellent job evaluating Michael’s speech. She praised his clear content, logical organization, and storytelling approach that kept everyone’s attention.
She also appreciated Michael’s honesty about his blogging experience and encouraged him to give blogging plenty of time and patience before expecting viewership to reach a reasonable level.

Another great evening at Brant Toastmasters—where we learn, laugh, share, and grow together!

THIS IS AN GREAT WAY TO INTRODUCE YOUNG PEOPLE TO SPEECH EXCELLENCE.

I had a visitor last week…and I’m beginning to think she came with an agenda.

It started innocently enough.

She came to my house and interviewed me for her podcast right at my dining room table…and I absolutely LOVED it.

We laughed. We talked. We probably talked about things we weren’t supposed to. It felt way less like an interview and much more like two women sitting around the table telling stories and solving the world’s problems.

I should have known it was a trap.

Because then…

She drug me off to Toastmasters.

Not one meeting.

TWO.

Two different Toastmasters clubs. Two completely different experiences. Both really good and unique in their own ways.

But my visitor wasn’t finished with me.

Before she left town, this woman made me promise I would go visit ANOTHER Toastmasters meeting without her. And because apparently I’m easily influenced by bossy podcast hosts…I went.

So in the span of a week, I went from having never stepped foot inside a Toastmasters meeting to visiting THREE of them.

THREE

And here’s where things have gone terribly wrong…

I actually liked them.

Worse yet, I really liked them. Like…I’m voluntarily going back liked them.

Moral of the story: Be very careful who you allow to interview you at your dining room table. They may seem perfectly nice. Next thing you know, they’re dragging you around town, forcing you into personal growth!!
