Ideally this page will be used to appraise facebook stargazers of observing opportunities at the BUAO from May to August and throughout the school year.

This is a page for those who are interested in the Brandon University Astronomical Observatory’s (BUAO) outreach initiative, primarily observing opportunities for the community, youth organizations, academic organizations, and those who have a passion for the night sky.

The moment we have all been waiting for...Reopening!! Everyone may pause for their happy dances.
Currently we are looking at what we will be able to offer for the summer and into the fall at the moment, but as always, anything we do relies on the generous donation of time and participation from our wonderful volunteers.
Therefore our first action is to create a 2022 list of volunteers. If you have have volunteered in the past and would like to volunteer again, or have a love for astronomy and would like to share that love, please email us at [email protected] with the subject RE: Volunteering.
After we know what our volunteer base will be like for the summer we will determine observing dates from there!
I hope everyone is as excited as we are to enjoy the best view in Brandon again!!

We have a great sky waiting for us tonight!!

We are doing a series of Pop-Up Public Observing nights. Notice for them will be short, anywhere from 8-48 hours. We are working around the weather and volunteer availability. Tickets for the pop-up events will be limited to approximately 30 guests. So if you have a free evening during the week, the sky is clear, check and see if we are going to be staring up with our awesome 16" Ritchey-Chretien telescope. :)

A big thank-you to Bailey Preston for a fantastic presentation on Friday night. Best part about the rain is all the volunteers got to sit in on the presentation!!!

As a side note, one of the guests at the presentation may have left a cell phone. If you are missing your communication device please send us a message and I will get you in touch with the proper people at BU.

We may have cloudy skies and a wee bit of rain, but we have a fantastic presentation planned for 9:30 and 10:30 pm in the Louis Riel room on the main floor of McMaster Hall. Come on out and learn about the death of stars and the evidence they leave behind!
