🇨🇦 Canada LMIA Update

ESDC has clarified who qualifies as an employer under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

✅ The LMIA employer must have a genuine employer–employee relationship and directly employ the worker.
❌ Staffing agencies cannot place workers with another business under their LMIA.
❌ LMIA workers cannot be treated as independent contractors.

⚠️ Non-compliance can lead to penalties and a ban from the TFW Program.

BIG CANADA IMMIGRATION UPDATE

A temporary public policy allowing certain previously undeclared family members to be sponsored has now ended.

Here’s what you need to know:

👉 The policy expired on September 10, 2026
👉 It was not renewed for new applications
👉 Certain previously undeclared family members are no longer eligible under this policy
👉 Eligible applications received before the deadline will continue to be processed
👉 IRCC has highlighted program-integrity concerns as part of its broader focus on strengthening the immigration system.

🇨🇦 NORTHWEST TERRITORIES | FINAL EOI DRAW OF 2026

The Northwest Territories has announced its **final 2026 Expression of Interest (EOI) draw** under the Employer-Driven Stream.

📅 Draw date: September 25, 2026
👥 Expected selections: Approximately 100 profiles
⏰ EOI deadline: September 22, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. MT

Profiles are ranked based on factors such as language ability, age, education, work experience, NWT connections, and settlement potential.

The first three 2026 draws selected 248 top-ranking profiles across NWT Express Entry, Skilled Worker, and Entry Level/Semi-Skilled categories.

📌 Selected candidates can proceed with a full application through their employer, while unselected profiles can remain in the pool for up to 12 months from submission.

For 2026, the Northwest Territories has been allocated 300 nominations under its nominee program.

🇨🇦 PEI PNP UPDATE | 195 INVITATIONS ISSUED

Prince Edward Island issued 195 invitations on 17 September 2026 through its Labour Impact and Express Entry pathways.

The province continues to prioritise candidates in higher-demand sectors, including healthcare, trades, manufacturing and other areas facing labour shortages. International graduates from UPEI, Holland College and Collège de l’Île were also prioritised in this round.

🇨🇦 Newfoundland & Labrador gets 1,000 additional immigration spaces for 2026!

Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2026 immigration allocation has received a significant boost, with the federal government approving 1,000 additional spaces — all allocated to the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP).

📌 Updated NLPNP allocation: 2,379 nominations
📈 54% increase from the province’s original 2026 allocation
🇨🇦 Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP): 475 spaces — unchanged

According to the province, the additional spaces are intended to support workforce and demographic needs, particularly in **rural communities, healthcare, education, and social support.

The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) is opening its final capped sector intake of 2026 across four sectors on September 14 & 15.

📅 Intake Schedule:

🔹 Accommodation: September 14 | 1:30 PM
🔹 Food Services: September 15 | 9:30 AM

The province has made nomination spaces originally allocated for later intakes available this September, making this the final capped sector intake for 2026.

IRCC has introduced a temporary measure giving eligible work permit holders in Canada more flexibility to pursue short-term education or training while continuing to work.

🔹 Study for up to 6 months without a study permit
🔹 Applies until 31 December 2027 or until the work permit expires - whichever comes first
🔹 Designed for short-term licensing, education and training opportunities
🔹 Full-time studies still require a study permit

The measure is intended to help temporary workers build skills and support key sectors of the Canadian economy.
