Future prospects for today’s youth are substantially different from past generations: work opportunities, student debt, and the nature of employment all require a new approach to education with new skills and new learning methodologies. Schools are still fundamentally anchored in the past. That is bad news for our students. LIKA (Leading in the Knowledge Age) is a simple, comprehensive and affordable digital program to define, set rubrics for and assess key Knowledge Age skills. Broad research on the work of experts and organizations has lead LIKA to a list of 10 skills which are valued by higher education and the business world. The ten skills are: Work Ethic; Team Work; Complex Thinking; Inventiveness; Independent and Peer Learning; Networking; Local, National and Global Thinking; Learning in Various Contexts; Designing; and Communication. - LIKA ‘lite’ allows schools to pilot with small groups
- student advisory groups can access LIKA to add structure and purpose to meetings
- student leaders can use LIKA to help younger students
- LIKA can be part of an extra-curricular activity - led by a coach, students can earn badge certificates for skills
