Hello and welcome to Love Grows Best Home Daycare! Unfortunately, I am no longer accepting inquiries or adding names to my waitlist. Wishing you all the best on your daycare search! 🌈

Love Grows Best Home Daycare officially opened two and a half years ago. During that time, I have welcomed seven families into my home and, together, we have enjoyed learning and growing through play. I feel so fortunate to have played a small part in their growth and development. Each child has been a wonderful addition to our group!

Although I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a home daycare provider, I have had an incredible job opportunity come my way and after much thought, I have made the decision to take the position. Therefore, Love Grows Best Home Daycare will be closing in June 2022. This means I will no longer be accepting inquiries or adding names to my waitlist.

I have really appreciated everyone's support and encouragement over the last 2.5 years. Many of my families found me through word of mouth, and that is because of so many family and friends who shared about my home daycare. So thank you!

Our family is very excited for this next chapter and can't wait to see what 2022 has in store for us!

Take care! 🌈

I appreciate and celebrate my fellow ECEs today! 🌈

"October 21st, 2021 is the 21st annual Child Care Worker & Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. This year we will be celebrating our Early Learning and Child Care Heroes and calling on the government to say yes to our Roadmap to Universal Child Care in Ontario which sets out our vision and our shared path forward for Ontario child care. Sponsored by Ontario’s labour movement, the day draws attention to the value of ECEs and child care workers in communities. It is also a great opportunity to call for better wages, working conditions and support for these workers. The contributions that ECEs and Child Care Workers make everyday in our communities is amazing and we want you to be recognized for it!"

Like most things in life, we often don't appreciate the value of something until it's gone. Childhood is one of those things. And it’s coming under increasing pressure. To be scheduled, outsourced, enriched.⠀⠀
We rationalise that if starting soccer at five years of age is a good idea, then starting at two must be even better. That enrolling our children in art class is more productive than drawing with chalk on the driveway. That playing in a baseball team hones skills more effectively than casually hitting a ball at the park on sunday afternoon with a group of friends and made up rules. We’re wrong.⠀
We need to give our kids the space and freedom that a simple childhood provides and then support them by making opportunities available when they show an interest. We need to release the pressure, guilt and obligation we put on ourselves to give our children more than they need; organised activities can be wonderful, but it’s healthiest as an a-la-carte experience not an all-you-can-eat buffet.⠀
Of all the elements of simplifying childhood that I’ve written about, simplifying schedules seems to be the one that causes the most controversy. Yet, it’s a relatively easy thing to do. It’s as simple as paring back, being mindful, choosing our YES’s and NO’s wisely. I think what stops us from simplifying is fear.⠀
Fear of missing out. Fear that we may be impeding our children’s future success. Fear of what others may think.⠀
It takes a leap of faith and a brave parent to trust that simplifying our children’s lives and giving them downtime to play, connect with their families and create simple joy is what our kids really need. To truly BE with them, not just DOING things for them.⠀
Our kids don’t need to be enrolled, entertained, scheduled, supervised, coached, or assessed in an adult-directed activity to be happy. While busyness may have been glorified in our culture, it is not a badge of honour and we need to prevent it from kidnapping our kids' childhoods.⠀
So, let’s give our kids the space to be unbusy. Let’s unschedule. Let’s “miss out”. Let’s hold the space for childhood. Because childhood isn’t a dress rehearsal for adulthood.

Did you know that there are numerous benefits to following a scheduled routine with children? Children thrive on consistency and depend on structure, stability and routine for their own sense of security. For these reasons, at Love Grows Best Home Daycare, we follow a daily schedule, but also embrace flexibility and simplicity when needed.

This article shares several tips for helping children cope with transitions and may be a useful tool for families who are starting daycare for the very first time. I have used several of the strategies listed both professionally and with my own children and find them to be very effective.
