MEET THE TEAM — THE FERNHOUTS 👋

Yes, you read that right. We employ the whole family. Well… pretty much. 😂

Over the past couple of years, the Fernhouts have become a familiar part of the Defender crew, each bringing something a little different to the table. Here’s the rundown:

First up — Shannon.

Shannon joined us in October 2024 and has truly become our jack of all trades. She’s moved from office admin to dispatch and, most recently, into an accounting role. As we’ve grown, she’s grown right along with us — always willing to jump into something new and help wherever she’s needed.

Around here, she’s affectionately known as “Part Time”… depending on the week, technically speaking. 😂

Then came Wade.

Wade is Bryan’s right-hand man on the dock. He’s about as quiet as they come — at least until a couple of wobbly pops get involved. 🍻 If you can make Wade crack a smile, consider it a good day.

Next up — Daryl. Or “Three Day Daryl,” if you will.

When we’re in a pinch, Daryl is always happy to dust off the old Class 1 licence and get back behind the wheel to haul a few trailer loads. He may not be here every day, but when we need him, he’s always willing to jump in.

Then came Owen.

After obtaining his Automotive Mechanic Journeyman ticket, Owen officially joined the Defender crew as an apprentice heavy duty mechanic. He’s been putting those skills to work around the shop and learning the ropes ever since.

And last, but certainly not least — Axel.

Axel started popping up here and there after completing his Brewing and Distilling diploma in Olds. He’s spent plenty of time helping out around the yard and shop, tackling whatever project we happened to throw his way. These days, he’s working in the family carpentry business while exploring where his brewing skills might take him next. We’re just hoping he remembers us when those first batches start rolling out. 🍻

Five Fernhouts, five different roles, and somehow, we’ve managed to keep the family peace. 😂

MEET THE TEAM 👋

If you’ve ever wondered who keeps things moving around here, there’s a good chance Bryan is somewhere in the middle of it.

Also known as B, Bryan runs the yard in Bonnyville and keeps the trucks, drivers and freight moving in the right direction. He’s a big part of making sure things stay on track, even when the pace gets a little crazy.

Bryan first met Derek years ago while working on the pipeline, and when we were getting things up and running in Bonnyville, he joined us in those early days. He’s been a big part of building our operation here ever since.

Known for his crazy work ethic, Bryan is often going from midnight until the sun goes down. He’s got one speed, and if you can’t keep up, you probably won’t be around for long. 😂

And no matter what time of day it actually is, you can always count on hearing his famous greeting: “Good morning!”

When he’s not keeping things moving here, Bryan enjoys getting out for a round of golf and heading back home to Bruce on the weekends.

Safe to say, Bonnyville wouldn’t be quite the same without him.

MEET THE TEAM 👋

You might know her as Shawna, but around here she also answers to Kiki… and sometimes Barb. 😂

Shawna is the friendly face holding down the front office. She greets our customers with a smile, keeps the boys in line when it comes to paperwork (someone has to do it!), and has even managed to sell a sea can or two along the way. 🚛📋

She’s always willing to jump in, lend a hand, or take on a new challenge — and around here, there’s never a shortage of those!

We’re pretty lucky to have Shawna as part of the team. 💛
