Meet Sami, one of our 2026 summer interpreters!

Sami is doing his masters in geography at memorial university (St Johns campus) with a special interest in marine habitats.

Samis favourite creature in the aquarium is the invasive European green crab. He loves educating people on how they are invasive and the best ways to get rid of them.

In his free time he enjoys hiking and photography. Sami can also be found taking cold plunges on the beach! 📸🥾

Meet Daniel one of our 2026 summer interpreters!

Daniel was born and raised in Norris Point, Newfoundland and is working towards an environmental science degree at the Grenfell campus! In addition to working at the aquarium, Daniel works with the non-profit AHOI (Atlantic Healthy Oceans Initiative). With AHOI, he does plastic pollution research.

Daniel’s favourite aquarium inhabitant is Cuddles the Wolffish! Atlantic wolffish have canine like teeth they use to crush hard shelled prey like crabs, sea urchins and lobsters. 🦞

When not in the aquarium Daniel can be found playing Pokémon go with his fiancé Tara.

Now that we’ve met some of the interpreters, it’s time to meet some of our animals! Open everyday 9:30-5, come visit the aquarium where you can see all of these incredible creatures🦞🐟🐚

Thanks to fisheries and Oceans Canada for coming out today to tell all our guests about the aquatic invasive species and aquatic species at risk.

Meet Zoe, one of our 2026 summer interpreters!

Zoë is from St. John’s, Newfoundland and is working on her degree in Marine Biology at MUN’s St. John’s campus. She has a strong passion for marine biology and loves to share her passion with others.

Her favourite critter in the aquarium is Rowena the sea raven, a spiky, bottom-dwelling fish native to the cold Northwest Atlantic coastal waters. To survive these freezing temperatures, it produces special antifreeze proteins in its blood that prevent ice crystals from forming. It also blends into rocky seafloors using bumpy camouflage, as it is an ambush predator.

When Zoe is not at the aquarium she can be seen paddling around the fjord or hiking the peaks of Gros Morne

Meet Chloe, one of our 2026 summer interpreters!

Chloe is from Point au Mal Newfoundland and is working on her degree in Environmental Science at MUN’s Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook. She has a strong connection to Norris point and also visited the aquarium when she was little. 🧪

Her favourite aquarium critter is Lumpy, the lumpfish! Not only does this little guy have beautiful colours but he has specially adapted pelvic fins that allow him to suction onto a rock when he needs a break from swimming. Unlike most fish, Lumpfish lack swim bladders and scales. 🐡

When Chloe is not hanging out with Lumpy in the aquarium, she can be found hanging out with her friends and looking for pretty seashells on the beach, especially her favourite… sand dollars! 🐚
