All of our love and condolences to Paula, Sammy, Gabby and Freesia as well as Kieren's Cat Skiing at Big Red Cats - Rossland / Red Mountain BC family. Kieren was hugely supportive of the CSGA and gave many a young Kootenay guide their start in our industry. An advocate for hard work, training, mentorship, safety and innovative practices, Kieren will be greatly missed.

A great summary of the winter in BC so far from Avalanche Canada
A season not soon forgotten and one that we will continue to learn from. It's not over yet, stay vigilant, especially when it does start to warm up - whenever that may be!

The deep persistent problem has dominated our messaging this season and has been the suspected avalanche problem in ten (83%) of this season’s fatalities. As we near the end of this unusual winter, let’s look back at the weather and snowpack conditions that formed this problem and kept it firmly...

Looking to volunteer for a great organization? Our partner organization the Canadian Avalanche Association is looking for a new public representative on its board.

The CAA is Canada’s self-regulating association of Avalanche Professionals and Practitioners. The CAA’s board has two public reps that ensure the organization operates in the public interest. They are seeking candidates for election at their AGM on May 2. If you started work in early december, you're probably about a 1/3 of the way through! Don't forget to check your transceiver batteries...and your personal battery. So far we've had dark days, -30C , + too much C at ridgetops, facets, depth hoar, surface hoar, crusts and we're missing about 2 m of snow according to coastal snow pillows. we're also working, people are coming to ski, we get to take them and it's getting lighter out later every day!
The Stress Continuum is an awesome tool for you to check in with and gauge where you are stress wise as we wend through the winter and navigate a fickle Mother Nature and all she has to offer. If you find yourself creeping up the scale, take a breath, identify what you can take off your plate to lighten your load and do something that makes you feel good. Most of all; know your team, your co workers and your friends are there if you need them.
If you feel yourself getting overloaded with the PWL's remember, it's just skiing.
