Neon Day - Highlighting Preschool 2 at May Court

In the preschool 2 classroom, there has been a lot of conversations about their older siblings at summer camps and how they are having theme days; particularly PJ Day.

The children in P2 often enjoy dance parties with the lights off and our “party light” on while using flashlights.

To extend these conversations we planned together three "themed" days during the week; Neon day, PJ Day and a Water Day.

For Neon Day the children were invited to wear something that will glow in the black light.

They explored different "glow" materials like highlighters on muffin liners and doilies, neon issue paper and black markers, neon paper on the floor alongside neon cups and magna-tiles that glow to create with.

Neon rice and bowls, cups, and scoops in a tuff tray as well as neon water with a water dispenser, assorted cups, bowls, measuring cups, and strainers.

This neon day started in the morning and continued into the afternoon during our awake room post-lunch!

Hypothesizing with School Age at Harwich Raleigh

While eating snack one afternoon, one of our school agers came across two goldfish crackers that were stuck together. 🐟

We were able to brainstorm together to come up with some of the reasons how this could have happened.

Our conversation led to lots of laughter and some great ideas!

JR Preschool Month in Review – July 🌿

July was a a very busy and exciting month in our Jr. Preschool Room at WJ Baird!

We have been all about messy play, risky play, and exploration.
The children have been given many opportunities to get creative, try new things, take safe risks, and explore their environment through hands-on experiences.

This past month, we have enjoyed some beautiful afternoons outdoors. We brought our cots outside and created a cozy outdoor space where the children could relax and even enjoy a little nap outside.
It was such a special experience that the children are still talking about it and asking when we can do it again!

Back in the classroom, we have been working hard to create a different and exciting block area.
The children have been exploring new ways to build, create, problem-solve, and work together.

Outside, we have been soaking up the sunshine and focusing a lot on art and creativity. We have provided the children with endless amounts of paint and a variety of materials to paint with.
It has been wonderful watching their imaginations come to life as they experiment with colours, textures, and different ways of creating.

We also had the opportunity to explore the skate park across the road, where the children enjoyed running, climbing, and moving up and down the ramps. These experiences have provided lots of opportunities for physical movement, confidence-building, and safe risk-taking.

Although it has been a very busy month, we are enjoying every second of it! We love watching the children grow, learn, explore, and develop new skills each and every day.

We can’t wait to see what adventures August brings!

“Driving My Tractor”

The Harwich Raleigh toddlers have been loving the song Driving my Tractor and it has become one of our go-to songs.

On one particular day, us educators quietly looked on while a group of the toddlers worked together to use our foam blocks to build something.

After listening to their conversations we found that they were building their very own tractor to ride in! 🚜

Seeing their individual imaginations come together as one was so heartwarming; their little minds working together to create something large - it doesn't get any better than that! 🤍

When they were finished building the tractor they each hopped in and the child in front started driving around, making their very own sound effects, bumping along the make believe road.

Naturally they requested the song to go with their pretend play and they all sang along together while riding in their tractor!

We love the outdoors!!

The FDK group enjoyed the pleasant weather while learning and playing outside. 🎨

The children explored their creativity through painting and were excited to have their pictures taken with their artwork. 📸

It was a joyful experience that encouraged friendship, teamwork, and positive interactions.

“The preschool room (joined by School Age and FDK) spent their morning at the Splash Pad.

The trip helped us strengthen our gross-motor skills as we walked through our community to get there.

We waved hi to community helpers, like firefighters and postal workers, sparking conversations about their jobs.

We talked about road safety and were so happy to hold our friend’s hands, creating bonding opportunities!

When we arrived at the splash pad we watched as the water turned on, rushing out of the ground and making us wonder where it came from!

We ran, jumped, splashed, and laughed all morning!

When we walked back, our older classrooms held our hands and we were able to make new friends and have great conversations!

We can’t wait to explore the Splash Pad again soon!”
