Today we practiced one of our Montessori activities, Walking on the Line!

The children practiced slowly walking along the line and trying their best to keep their feet on it.

This simple activity helps with balance, coordination, concentration, and body awareness. It also gives them a chance to practice slowing down, controlling their movements, and being mindful of the space around them.

Such a simple but fun way to practice so many important skills!

One of the special things about Montessori is watching the older children naturally step in to help the younger ones.

Our CASA classroom has a three-year age range for a reason! The younger children get to watch and learn from children who are a little further along, while the older children get the opportunity to be helpers, leaders, and role models.

There’s something so sweet about watching an older child notice that someone needs help and show them what to do. And so often, the younger children are watching everything the older ones do and can’t wait until it’s their turn!

Helping someone else also strengthens the older child’s own learning and gives them such a wonderful sense of responsibility and confidence.

👮‍♀️🚓 Community Helpers at DMS Montessori Belleville! 🧡

As we begin exploring our Community Helpers unit and the spirit of Thanksgiving, we were so excited to welcome some very special guests to DMS Montessori Belleville — the Belleville Police Service! 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

Our children had the opportunity to spend time with the officers, learn about their daily work, talk about community safety, and discover the many ways police officers help and protect our community.

The children were thrilled to explore the police vehicles, sit inside the cars, and even learn about how drones are used as an important tool in their work. 🚓✨

It was a wonderful, interactive experience that brought our learning to life and gave our children a meaningful connection with the community helpers who serve us every day.

A huge thank you to Belleville Police Service for spending time with our children and making today’s workshop so special! We are incredibly grateful for your time, kindness, and dedication to our community. 🧡

The Montessori Peace Table

This beautiful, simple table plays a huge role in the classroom. But why? What is the point of this table?

-It’s a simple, quiet area for the child to have a moment to themselves. A space for them to relax and reflect. A space for them to go when they need a moment. A space for self-regulation, reflection, and independence.

-The peace table is also used as a conflict resolution between 2 children. A safe space for them to go to talk about the conflict and how they feel. A teacher typically will help with this. Sometimes they can just go to the peace table for a moment alone before they can talk as well.

🧡 Creating with Purpose — Orange Shirt Day 🧡

Our children explored the meaning of Orange Shirt Day through a simple hands-on art activity. They carefully tore pieces of orange paper and used them to create their own Orange Shirt artwork. 👕🧡

Through creativity and conversation, we encourage our children to learn about the importance of remembering, respecting, and honouring the experiences of Indigenous children and families.

Today in Casa, we continued building our language and early math skills!

We explored the Spindle Box, an important Montessori math material that introduces the concept of zero and helps children understand that zero means
“nothing.”
We finished our day outside, where the children helped care for our environment by taking care of our outdoor space. 1
Another wonderful day of learning, independence, and caring for our classroom and environment!

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, we pause to listen, learn, remember, and reflect.

At DMS Montessori Belleville, we believe in nurturing children with compassion, respect, and an understanding of the world around them. Today is an opportunity to honour the children who never returned home, remember Survivors and their families, and recognize the enduring strength of Indigenous communities.

🍎 Exploring the Parts of an Apple! 🍎

Our Pre-Casa children are discovering the different parts of an apple through hands-on exploration and conversation. From the stem and skin to the flesh, seeds, and core, this seasonal activity encourages observation, vocabulary development, and a deeper connection with nature. 🌿🍏

A simple apple can open the door to so many wonderful discoveries in the Montessori environment. ❤️
