Poison Hemlock is popping up all over right now! Please remember it’s poisonous to the touch!

The general symptoms of hemlock poisoning are effects on nervous system, vomiting, trembling, problems in movement, slow and weak later rapid pulse, rapid respiration, salivation, urination, nausea, convulsions and possibly coma.

What does poison Hemlock look like on skin?

The results are skin reddening, rash development, and in severe cases, blisters and burning or scalding type pain. Hemlock burns often occur in elongated spots or streaks. Dark red or brownish skin discoloration develops where the burn or blisters first appeared and can last for several months.

Do not burn the plant, as the smoke can contain deadly toxins.

REMOVAL: Wear gloves to protect skin from plant juices. Small patches may be dug up - including roots - but mowing poison hemlock won't kill it. Put the plant in a sealed garbage bag, let it bake in the sun and then throw the bag in the trash. Do not compost - the dried plants remain toxic. It can be lethal to all animals and children that come in contact.

It is considered the most toxic plant in North America.
