We are a community of multi-age learners with an accent on real-life learning and discovery. We are older students helping younger students and families sharing their skills with a strong community focus. The Adventure Class is open to any family in Hastings and Prince Edward County. While the majority of students live in the vicinity of Queen Victoria School, some come from quite a distance to take part. On this warm day, these photos of our adventure at the Quinte Curling Club seem much longer ago than just a few weeks!

Our pottery reveal! Students and families joined in the Learning Commons to get the first look at the pottery they made at The Core pottery studio. The titles students chose for their pieces were extremely creative!

A great day in the schoolyard exploring properties of and changes in matter. The most definite highlight for many were the s'mores we prepared in our very own solar ovens!

A beautiful spring day at the Frink! We began with sit spots then moved into a social studies/STEM activity. Students learned about various ways indigenous communities in early Canada designed boats for various purposes. They were then challenged to create their own boat designs using only twine and materials found in nature. It was amazing to see the perseverance of each group when their first attempts were not successful, followed by the joy of seeing their hard work pay off!

We ended the day on the board walk where we applied our recent art lessons on Monet and Impressionism by sketching (then painting back at school) a scene/spot/place that they connected with.

Our tradition of collaborative art continues at PCB! We are always amazed at how well 43 students can collaborate and co-operative together in a single classroom to create unique and thoughtful pieces of art!

We recently learned about the types of line by creating collaborative collages using various mediums. We then applied this knowledge to make landscapes with tinfoil transfers….a huge hit with all!

Recently, the AC classes were able to enjoy a busy day of art and literacy in our community. We attended core pottery to learn about sculpting techniques and created so many unique pinch pots!!

We also spent some time at the Belleville Library and Art Gallery with a cross curricular science/literacy activity led by our amazing Queen’s Outdoor Education Students. We read the story Be a Good Ancestor and discussed how our relationship with the environment can impact future generations. Students then created their own life cycles with actions they can take to help animals and our 🌍!

Hi! It's been a while since we've posted here, but we've been busy over the winter!

It was a week full of spooky fun and collaborative learning. Starting with a day of “Wizard Training in the Woods” at the Frink. Students went on a scavenger hunt to collect ingredients and put their creative writing skills to the test to make a potion. They made spooky art out of natural materials to protect the enchanted woods and ended the day with a game of quidditch.

This week we also completed the annual tradition of apple sauce, pumpkin math and pumpkin carving.

We are thankful to the many volunteers that made a busy week a lot less hectic with their support.

Take Me Outside Day! Students participated in a national art challenge to build mosaics inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy out of natural materials. Their art work will be added to a National Mosiac collage!

Students also spent time exploring changes to our school environment with sit spots and recording their observations in their adventure journals.

A day of outdoor learning in our new schoolyard at PCB! We built 3D structures, did yoga, searched for items on a math themed outdoor scavenger hunt with our learning buddies, and ended the day with a game that recreated the challenges that monarch butterflies face as they migrate south.
