Have you explored the Mixolydian mode on your harp?

With its warm, open sound and gently folk-like character, Mixolydian music often feels both familiar and a little unexpected. It is a beautiful mode for the harp—and it appears in many of my original compositions and arrangements.

In this new blog post, I’ve gathered 13 Mixolydian harp solos, arranged by level from elementary through late intermediate. Whether the mode is new to you or already one of your favourites, I hope you’ll discover a piece that inspires you!

“Both Sides Now” has always been one of those songs that seems to grow with us. 🎶
Joni Mitchell first recorded it for her 1969 album Clouds, then returned to it more than 30 years later with a beautifully orchestrated version. My early intermediate harp arrangement draws inspiration from both recordings, using creative range changes to explore the melody in different registers.
Watch for the special challenge when the right hand plays the melody down an octave while the left hand crosses over with broken triads. It takes a little practice, but creates such an interesting texture on the harp.

This arrangement is in G Major with no lever changes and is best suited for large harps.

A little “Hey Jude” for the harp. 🎶
This mid-intermediate arrangement is in G Major and includes some quick lever changes, carefully planned and marked in the score. A helpful tip: place your right hand on the strings before making the lever change.

The arrangement includes courtesy fi*****ng and is best suited for large lever harps.

🌳 Do you own a small harp with bass C as the lowest string?

One of the things I love most about a small harp is that it can go almost anywhere.

My own harp journey began on a simple black Harpsicle harp with no levers. That little harp taught me that you don't need a large instrument to make beautiful music. Even today, I still enjoy taking a small harp to a quiet park, a weekend getaway, or simply sitting beneath a shady tree on a summer afternoon.

I've gathered 11 of my favourite elementary to early intermediate pieces into a new blog article. Every piece fits a small harp with bass C as the lowest note, uses no sharps or flats, and includes links to sheet music and performance videos. Several also have free mini lessons to help you get started.

Whether you've just begun playing or you're looking for new music to enjoy outdoors this summer, I hope you'll discover something you'll love.

🇨🇦 Just in time for Canada Day 🇨🇦
One of Canada's most beloved songs, now reimagined for the harp.

"If You Could Read My Mind" by Gordon Lightfoot has long been one of my favourite Canadian classics. Its reflective melody and thoughtful lyrics translate beautifully to the harp, creating a piece that is both expressive and rewarding to play.

This mid-intermediate arrangement includes lyrics in the score to help capture the syncopated feel of the original song.

Wishing my Canadian friends a happy Canada Day as we celebrate the music and stories that connect us from coast to coast.

Strawberry Moon, dreamy harp music 06/28/2026

🌕 As June draws to a close, the Strawberry Moon rises in the evening sky, casting its warm glow across the landscape. Inspired by those peaceful summer nights, this gentle harp solo flows in a relaxed 6/8 meter, creating an easy, lilting rhythm that invites you to slow down and simply listen.

This is an early intermediate arrangement available in two versions:
• F Major for large harps
• C Major for small harps with bass C as the lowest string

This recording is a simple audio reference to help you hear the piece while you explore the sheet music. I'll be releasing a polished performance video in the coming weeks. You'll find the link to the sheet music in the YouTube description.

Enjoy! 🍓🍓🍓🍓

Today is the summer solstice, and it seems like the perfect time to revisit Litha 🌞

Inspired by the ancient Celtic festival celebrating the longest day of the year, this gentle harp solo brings to mind warm sunshine, quiet evenings, and distant bonfires.

Litha was also the very first piece I composed on my little 28-string Marini Made bass lap harp when it arrived. The music makes full use of the harp's beautiful low F strings and fits comfortably under the hands, making it a rewarding piece for intermediate harpists.

Wishing you a peaceful and light-filled solstice.

A helpful tip for anyone purchasing sheet music through Sheet Music Plus (or Sheet Music Direct).

Many of my popular song arrangements must be sold on their platforms due to licensing requirements. Recently, I've heard from customers who were surprised to discover they had signed up for a monthly membership when they thought they were simply purchasing a piece of sheet music.

So I took a closer look at the checkout process and can see how easy it would be to miss the fine print.

If you're purchasing a single arrangement and do not want a monthly subscription, click the grey "Add to Cart" button rather than the large orange purchase button.

I've created this simple graphic to show exactly what I mean.
Of course, if you enjoy the benefits of a subscription service and regularly purchase sheet music, it may be a great fit for you. I simply wanted to help you make an informed choice before checking out.

I hope you find this helpful!
