Today is Don't Step on a Bee Day - a reminder of how important bees are to our ecosystem. Did you know that one-third of our food relies on pollination?

How can you help bees flourish?
🐝 Leave dandelions and clover in your lawn a bit longer as a food source.
🐝 Plant pollinator-friendly plants that bloom throughout the entire season.
🐝 In the fall, consider leaving the leaves, brush piles, fallen logs, plant stems, and flower heads as cover for bees to survive the winter.

Let's protect bee habitats, and these tiny pollinators will thank us by doing what they do best!

We wish you a great day celebrating Canada with family and friends!

NBDC delivers immersive, real-world learning to students across a wide range of disciplines.

Currently, a talented group of fine arts students is working to document our research projects and services. Leading the team is David McGregor, a member of the NWP faculty.

David teaches photography and video production at NWP, where students build hands-on skills in filming, editing, and understanding client needs.

Beyond the classroom, David is also an accomplished artist. He was recently shortlisted for the 2026 Rewilding Arts Prize, a national award recognizing artists whose work engages with the living world. To experience his work, visit www.davidmcgregor.ca

We love seeing art and science come together in such meaningful ways!

Happy ! 🐝🌼 Across the Prairies, pollinators help more than plants grow, they help communities thrive. From local farms to small businesses, they support jobs, food production, and opportunities for people across the region.

In 2024, PrairiesCan invested over $390,000 in Northwestern Polytechnic to support the National Bee Diagnostic Centre - NBDC in Beaverlodge, Alberta. This work is helping strengthen Canada’s beekeeping industry by improving how honey is tested and verified, giving producers new ways to build trust with buyers and reach more markets.

At the heart of it all are the people, beekeepers, researchers, and producers, working every day to keep pollinators healthy and their businesses strong. We’re proud to support efforts that help Prairie communities grow, one hive at a time.
