An unexpected gift from a thoughtful, generous student today!

During one of my outdoor Kindermusik classes this week we heard a noise that all the parents thought was an electrical sound. I used to think so too, but eventually I learned it comes from these:

For the last two weeks my students have been exploring the inside of my in-studio pump organ, which was originally in my grandmother's home. Every January I remove part of the piano cabinet for investigation but this is the first time I've also done that with the organ. On top is a photo of her and the card she was given in appreciation for her many years of service playing the church organ. Unfortunately, she died before I was born, but I clearly inherited her interest in music.

It's been a very busy fall. On Labour Day PPS moved into a new unit at 80 Bradford Street; a shared space with fellow teacher Christina Scala (cello & violin). It's a coworking community for private music teachers we're calling Huronia Music Studios. There's room for another instructor, preferably a guitar teacher, to join us. This evening I did a virtual piano lesson with a student who was dressed as Pete the Cat for a school assignment (favourate literary character). "Pete" and I had a lot of fun together, and he impressed me by playing his homework pieces with his tail instead of his paws! That reminded me of Nora, another cat who likes to play the piano.

A glimpse into the fun a family can have together in a virtual Kindermusik class. The final session (mixed ages, 6 mon. to 4 years) started Thursday at 10am and will run through the end of March, skipping the school break. Want to attend a free trial? Send a message to [email protected]
