âš“ Strengthening pathways from education to service

Georgian College and the Royal Canadian Navy have signed a Memorandum of Collaboration to strengthen marine training, expand career opportunities, and help build Canada’s future marine workforce.

The partnership will enhance opportunities for students, reservists, active service members and Navy recruits through industry-connected training, experiential learning, recognition of prior learning, and pathways into marine careers. It also builds on successful cadet placements aboard Navy vessels and supports programs such as the Navy’s Non-Commissioned Member Subsidized Training and Education Plan (NCMSTEP).

Together, Georgian and the Royal Canadian Navy are creating stronger connections between postsecondary education, workforce development, and military service -- on land and at sea.

The right tools can make a meaningful difference in how a student learns.

At Georgian, Adaptive Technology is part of the supports available through Accessibility Advising, helping students explore technology and strategies that can support their individual learning needs.

From reading and writing to note-taking, organization and navigating coursework, these tools can help remove barriers and create a more accessible learning experience.

College doesn’t look the same for every student, and neither does the support that helps them succeed.

Classes matter. So does everything between them.

Your timetable shapes more than when you’re in class. It’s your study time, lunch breaks, work, friends and everything else that makes up your semester.

Add/Drop opens Aug. 17. Take another look at your fall schedule and ask yourself: does it work for you?

Some alumni leave an impact that extends far beyond their profession.

Nearly 50 years after graduating from Georgian’s Marine Navigation program, Lillian Kluka is reflecting on a career that helped shape Canadian maritime history as the country’s first female marine pilot.

Her story is one of resilience, determination and breaking barriers. Despite facing discrimination early in her career, Lillian persevered, opening doors for future generations of women in the marine industry.

As Georgian celebrates this milestone alongside Lillian and her graduating class, we’re reminded that education doesn’t just prepare students for careers. It prepares them to change industries, challenge expectations and leave lasting legacies.

It’s funny how a bag can hold more than just your everyday essentials.

By the end of the semester, it’ll be carrying lecture notes, coffee runs, late-night study sessions, new friendships and memories you’ll look back on long after graduation.

But for now, it all starts with packing for day one.

We’ll see you this fall.

Getting ready for a new semester starts with having the right tools.

Before classes begin, make sure you’ve downloaded the key apps and platforms that will help you stay organized, connected and supported throughout your time at Georgian College.

These include:

* SAFE@Georgian for campus safety and emergency resources.
* Blackboard for accessing course content, assignments and grades.
* Banner for course registration, timetables and student information.
* Navigate 360 for appointment booking, reminders and connecting with student support services.
* My SSP for free, confidential mental health support available 24/7.

Taking a few minutes to set these up before September can help make your transition to college smoother and ensure you’re ready from day one.

Which app do you think you’ll use the most this semester?

Starting college comes with a lot of questions, and honestly, most of them don’t end up being about assignments.

It’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

Registering early.
Checking your program’s BYOD requirements before buying a laptop.
Uploading your ONEcard photo ahead of time.
Walking your schedule before your first class.
Going to Orientation, even if you don’t know anyone yet.

None of these take long, but they’ll help your first week feel a whole lot less overwhelming.

If you’re joining the Georgian community this September, save this post for later. And if you’re a returning student, what’s one thing you wish someone had told you before your first day? 👇
