Many firefighter candidates assume failing an aptitude test means they’re not smart enough for the job.

In my experience, that’s rarely the real reason.

👉 Because studying harder is not the same thing as preparing properly.

One of the biggest things I see with firefighter candidates is this:

They’re putting in effort, but their preparation process is unstructured. They’re jumping between resources, doing random practice questions, watching videos, using ChatGPT, and hoping repetition alone will improve their scores.

But firefighter aptitude tests don’t reward random studying. They reward strategy, process, consistency, and test readiness.
