We hope you don’t need these, but if you do, you’ll be glad you packed them.

Here’s what we’d recommend bringing:

1️⃣ First Aid Kit
For everyday injuries.

2️⃣ Tick Removal Kit
Remove ticks safely.

3️⃣ Aspirin
For suspected heart attacks.*

4️⃣ EpiPen
Bring a backup if you have one.

5️⃣ Naloxone (Narcan)
Especially important if someone takes opioid pain medication.

6️⃣ LifeVac
For choking emergencies when traditional methods are unsuccessful.

7️⃣ Stop the Bleed Kit
For life-threatening bleeding

8️⃣ Fire Blanket
Quickly smother fires.

9️⃣ AED
Response times are often longer. Every minute without defibrillation reduces the chance of survival.

When someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest, immediate CPR and AED use from those nearby can increase survival rates by up to 75%.

Severn is now home to three outdoor, publicly accessible AEDs, available 24/7 in weatherproof, climate-controlled SaveStation cabinets.

Action First Aid also hosted a free awareness session to help community members build the confidence to act in a cardiac emergency.

A huge thank you to North Simcoe Tree Service for generously donating two SaveStations, and to Beers Pharmacy for purchasing and installing a third.❤️

📍 SaveStation locations:
- Coldwater Fairgrounds
- Washago Centennial Park
- Beers Pharmacy (Washago)

If you live in or visit Severn, take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these locations. Knowing where your nearest AED is could help save a life.

During sudden cardiac arrest, every second matters. These outdoor publicly accessible AEDs make it possible for the public to take action and potentially save a life while waiting for emergency responders to arrive.

Action First Aid will also be hosting a free awareness session to help empower community members with the confidence to recognize sudden cardiac arrest, call 911, start CPR, and use an AED in an emergency.

A huge thank you to North Simcoe Tree Service and Beers Pharmacy for making all three SaveStation installations possible and for their commitment to helping build a safer community.

Can't make it? Don't worry, we'll be sharing highlights from the event, and as always, feel free to message us with any questions!

The Dr. Robert Gros HeartSafe Fund 07/28/2026

A lifetime dedicated to advancing cardiovascular research is now helping make Western University a more cardiac-safe community.

Throughout his career at the Robarts Research Institute and Western University, Dr. Robert Gros dedicated his life to advancing cardiovascular research. His remarkable work helped improve our understanding of heart health and contributed to discoveries that continue to shape patient care today.

Now, that commitment to protecting lives is inspiring The Dr. Robert Gros HeartSafe Fund: an initiative to install publicly accessible SaveStation AEDs across Western University to help protect students, staff, faculty, visitors, and the broader community.

We're honoured to support this meaningful initiative in honour of Dr. Robert Gros.

Today marks three years since Tyson Downs, an 18-year-old from Owen Sound, tragically passed away from Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

In his memory, Tyson’s family has built the Tyson Downs Association; a non-profit association committed to expanding awareness of sudden cardiac arrest, CPR, AEDs, and making training more accessible.

We are inspired by the TDBeAT Association’s ambition to inspire young adult athletes to learn lifesaving CPR skills and bring more publicly accessible AEDs to communities in an effort to increase cardiac arrest survival rates.

Thank you, TDBeAT Association for the incredible impact you are making in Tyson’s honour.

Here's what everyone should know about using an EpiPen.

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can happen within minutes. An EpiPen delivers epinephrine to help reverse the reaction while emergency medical help is on the way.

📞 Call 911 immediately if anaphylaxis is suspected.

Remember:
💙☁️ Blue to the sky. 🧡🦵 Orange to the thigh.

🦵 Inject into the middle of the outer thigh (it can be given through clothing if needed).

⏱️ Hold the EpiPen in place for the recommended time shown on your device (follow your specific device's instructions).

🚑 An EpiPen is emergency treatment, not a replacement for medical care. Always seek emergency medical attention, even if the person starts to feel better.

At Action First Aid, we're on a mission to empower people to take action. Follow for more first aid tips and lifesaving education.

Did you know what an EpiPen actually does? Let us know in the comments, and share this with someone who should know this information.
