Does your horse get antsy or uncomfortable when they see the saddle coming over to them?

This is a common behaviour and could be due to a number of reasons. The number one reason is usually due to improper saddle fit.

A saddle that does not fit your horse could cause pressure points over their back and cause them discomfort.

Shifting movements, being ‘dancy’ or appearing impatient is how they often communicate their discomfort.

If you would like to learn how to improve your saddle fit, here is the link to our clinics available online and in person.

Can you guess what the FIT crew has been up to this week?!

If you guessed filming more clinics; you guessed correct!

We spent the last two days in the beautiful, rainy metropolis of Barrhead at the Alberta Natural Touch Therapy Institute campus!

Luckily, we were able to get some sun during filming our demonstrations for the class “MUSCLES AND ORGANS”.

This is a super interesting course (my personal favourite!-Nicole S) where we explore the correlation that each organ has to specific muscles. We dive in depth to how imbalances in the organs can affect the horses well-being and performance.

The Muscles and Organs clinic will be available soon!

Did you know that your horses body shape changes with age, weight and fitness levels? Much like our human bodies change over the years, we need different sized clothing as we change shape (even as adults!). Wouldn’t it also makes sense that our horses would too?

Saddle fit issues can present in such a wide range of ways, from lameness to behaviours.

Saddle fit is one of the main things that can affect our horse in a negative way. It is often overlooked and most horse owners don’t know how to check if their saddle is the issue.

FIT for Animals Ltd has an online Saddle FIT course just for you! This 2 day class will help you to understand the function of the horse in relation to the saddle and you will learn simple techniques to assess and adjust saddle fit!

In person classes are also available.

Sign up at www.courses.natural-touch.ca to learn how to maximize your horses comfort and build an even stronger bond with your best friend!

Hi there! Chantelle Martin here sharing some relatable insight to the realistic process of owning and training horses. We all have days where mentally we want to ride our horse and work on those goals we’ve been setting for ourselves but physically we need to rest. Thankfully we can still exercise our horse while doing minimal work on our part by lunging them and making sure they get their steps in.
It is important that we still make sure we take the correct steps while doing so.
First, make sure you boot up or wrap those legs for protection as we know sometimes our horses like to express themselves dramatically and we want to make sure their delicate legs are protected.
Secondly, make sure you have the proper lunging equipment: halter or lunging cavesson, lunge line, lunging whip and a area where there is proper footing. Too hard of footing will cause too much concussion on the joints and too deep of footing will put strain on the ligaments, tendons and muscles.
Thirdly, make sure you have enough control over your horse to have them warm themselves up properly before they decide to take off. Muscles that have been at rest do not have blood circulating at a quick enough pace yet to allow proper stretching and usage of the muscles. We want to prevent potential injury to the body as a whole and have our horses happy and healthy!

For more info and insight to understanding the horse, check out our online courses! Saddle Fit is currently available while our FIT ONE course is being edited as we speak!
