Meet Erin!
Hi! My name is Erin Thompson and I am the Education Director for the Scholars Ottawa Locations. I am so excited to be working with Scholars!
I received my undergraduate degree from Carleton University with a BA in Psychology and a BA in History. After completing my undergrad, I spent 9 months teaching English abroad in Italy. I
worked for a company called Lingue Senza Frontiere, where I ran English workshops and taught drama classes to students of all ages. I still remember some of my Italian words, too. After returning to Canada, I began the Teachers Education Program at the University of Ottawa.
Since completing my B.Ed, I worked as a supply teacher with the Catholic School Board before being hired full time at Astolot Education Centre, a private school specializing in providing
education to students with special needs and accommodations. My experience here provided me with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to move into my current role as
an education director.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading (my favorite series is Harry Potter), watching movies and TV, playing board games with my friends and family, cuddling and playing with my pets, and working
out/swimming. I was actually a lifeguard for 5 years and coached a competitive swim team!
I really love working with students and watching them learn, grow, and succeed. I believe that every child has the ability to succeed when provided with the right tools and opportunities to do
so. My goal is to create a learning environment in which all students can succeed, meet their goals, and become confident in their own abilities, while understanding that all students learn
differently and accommodating to meet their individual needs. One of my favorite quotes about teaching and learning is this, and it truly encompasses everything that I hope to bring to Scholars:
“ Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning, but also capable of succeeding.” - Robert John Meehan
