Where Are They Now?

Meet Satu! Originally from Finland, and now a newly minted Canadian Permanent Resident, Satu is a graduate of the Outdoor Adventure Guide Diploma 🇫🇮

Satu is an aspiring ACMG mountain guide working as a tail guide, program manager at and avalanche practitioner in Banff. Satu has been an exceptional teacher, role model and mentor to Timberline students over the past few winters and we’re so very proud to have her as a fellow community member. Thank you Satu!

Where Are They Now?

Meet Jack! Originally from the UK, and newly minted Canadian Permanent Resident, Jack is a graduate of the Outdoor Adventure Guide Diploma. 🇬🇧

Jack is Banff community member and spends his winters working as an Avalanche Technician and Ski Patroller at Mount Norquay in Banff. In the summer, Jack works as an ACMG Via Ferrata guide. Jack has also had a hand teaching programming at Timberline Academy to aspiring mountain professionals. Thank you Jack!

It’s a big snow science week here at Timberline Academy! All of our first year students are taking part in the Avalanche Skills Training 1 course while our second students continue to hone their backcountry skills for the upcoming Operations Level 1 course.

Backcountry programming is well underway for our second-year Outdoor Adventure Guide Diploma students as part of the Ski Guide Training II course.

This crew is busy preparing for the upcoming Avalanche Search & Rescue Level 1 and will be ski touring up the Icefields Parkway this week.

We have just wrapped our first big week of on snow CSIA & CASI training! It’s snowing lot’s in Banff so we’re excited to keep the early winter momentum going! Here’s what’s on tap for programming this coming week:

Winter Skills Instructor Internship students are continuing with CSIA & CASI training, Local Ecology & Conservation I, Photography I and Gear Tuning.

Second Year OAG Diploma students are busy with Local Ecology & Conservation II, Risk Management II, Photography II, Indigenous Relations II and Ski Guide Training II.

The 2025/2026 winter season is off to a great start in Banff! It’s been a busy few weeks for both first and second year students with Local Ecology & Conservation, Indigenous Relations, Wilderness First Aid, Photography and Risk Management.

We’re excited to hit the slopes this week!

A midsummer throwback to this past April’s Ski Mountaineering Expedition as part of the second year of the Outdoor Adventure Guide Diploma.

The students lived in huts atop the Wapta Icefield for a week. They worked to develop their glacier travel skills, crevasse rescue, expedition management and skied some epic 1000m runs in one of the most breathtaking settings on earth.

We’re very excited to see this group graduate in just 5 weeks time!
