What is the hardest part about learning guitar for you?

Is it changing chords? Playing without accidentally hitting the wrong strings? Running through scales cleanly?

Hi everyone,

One piece of advice I would give to my younger self, as well as my students, is that if you can set aside just one hour a day to practice guitar, you will be surprised how much you will progress in just one year. And as your skill level increases and the calluses on your fingers get harder, you can practice longer.

As a beginner, your progress might be hard to notice and that's normal. But trust me. If you stay with it, even for just an hour a day, steady improvement is inevitable.

Looking forward to playing at more local events over the next little while! One of the things I enjoy most about music is being able to share it with other people, whether that's performing or helping someone learn their first song.

As a guitar teacher one of the things I look forward to the most is helping students learn music they actually enjoy listening to. I'm always curious to hear what songs inspire people to pick up the guitar in the first place.

So I'd like to know, if you could learn one song or riff right now, what would it be?

Hi everyone,

Just want to give a bit of advice to all the young beginner guitarists who want to be able to shred.

If you're like me and you grew up listening to guitarists who can play really fast, it's normal to want to be able to play like them early on. That was definitely the case with me as a kid.

And here's the good news:
I believe you all have the potential to reach that level with enough practice and time.

But it also takes a lot of patience. You have to walk before you can run. So don't worry if you can't play complex riffs and solos within the first few years. Start by playing just a few notes at a time with a focus on feel to make each note sound as beautiful as possible. Because you don't have to shred to capture an audience. Slow melodic playing can be impressive too.

Also, a quick reminder that spots are still open for 1 hour group classes on Sundays! Feel free to message me and reserve your spot.
