Q: How will the project affect the local economy?
A: Swift River Energy anticipates an overall positive impact to the area from economic stimulation in relation to a $23 million construction project. In the long term, it is also felt that the newly refurbished park with scenic lookouts will be a tourist attraction and help to keep visitors in the area longer.

Q: What about flows over the South Dam rapids?
A: These flows will very all year, but will not drop below 2 m3/s in the summer or below 1 m3/s the rest of the year. The average flows over this dam, will, however, be significantly higher than these minimums. Swift River Energy recently organized a multi-stakeholder committee to review the flows over both the dams. We hope to have some community recommendations from this committee by the end of October.

Q: What about the rest of the year?
A: It is proposed to maintain the historical summer flows at the Bala Falls all year, with the exception of during the spring walleye spawning period, when significantly higher flows will be released over the Bala Falls.

A: No. SREL is committed to maintaining the historical summer flows over the Bala Falls (at the North Bala Dam).
