Emotional regulation always starts with emotion identification. We have been talking a lot about regulating kiddos emotions through co-regulation, but a really important first step is helping your little ones be able to name how they’re feeling. 💭
You can start easy with words like happy, mad, sad, frustrated, icky, bad. Then, as you and your kids get more comfortable start trying to name more nuanced emotions like furious instead of angry, or disappointed, or excited instead of happy.
Remember, kids learn a lot through modeling so telling them how you’re feeling and labelling your own emotions can help them learn what those emotions may look and feel like! ❤
