In the spring of 2026, the students of Dr. G.W. Williams High School participated in a rich cultural art experience with Kanienke’ha:ka (Mohawk) artist and Knowledge Keeper D. Ahsén:nase Douglas. During his visit, he shared stories, teachings, and insights into his culture while guiding students through design principles, colour, and narrative.
Inspired by the stories of Sky Woman and The Peacemaker and Hiawatha, the students created their own interpretations and visual elements. Mr. Douglas then brought these individual designs together into a cohesive and culturally meaningful artwork that reflects both the teachings and the students’ creativity.
Over the course of ten weeks, he collaborated with different groups of students to bring this mural to life, showcasing the collective effort and artistic talents of the Dr. G.W. Williams school community. .ahsennase.douglas
