When interest rates rise, prices drop creating a buyer's market. As of November 2023, the prime rate of the Bank of Canada is 7.2%. Once interest drops, the interest you owe in your monthly mortgage payments will drop and your principal outstanding will not increase, so you end up paying far less in interest once interest rates drop back down. Over the last 15 years, we have seen rates drop historically low and we likely will not see that for a while.
