The Grade 5/6 students had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful art session through Connected North this week. They learned about the Indigenous medicine that can be provided by the Birch tree and how there are over 20 different species of Birch trees. They then created beautiful paintings of some Birch trees, guided by Metis artist Connie Kulhavy from Edmonton. The students' talent speaks for itself in their finished pictures.

We caught the Grade 3/4 class beautifying the front yard of the school by planting flowers. Well done, students!

🐛 🐜
Our Kindergarten students have been busy learning about insects and the important role they play in our environment. Through books, discussions, observations, and outdoor exploration, we discovered that many bugs need safe places to rest, hide, and lay their eggs.

The children worked together to design and build bug hotels using a variety of natural materials. They carefully planned what insects might need and created spaces with different textures and hiding spots. Once our bug hotels were complete, we proudly placed them in our school garden to welcome our tiny visitors!

This hands-on STEM project encouraged creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. In preparation for our build we also enjoyed a neighbourhood walk to observe and watch insects. 🐜

We can’t wait to observe who moves into our bug hotels and continue learning about the amazing creatures that share our outdoor space. 💚🪲
