A heartfelt thank you to our nurses and healthcare professionals.
Happy Nurse’s Week to every single nurse out there. 🤍
This week is more than flowers, thank you cards, free coffee, and calling nurses “superheroes.”
Because the truth is: we are not superheroes. We are human beings.
Human beings who get tired, break down in silence, and carry physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion home after every shift while still showing up to care for others.
Nursing is more than medications, charting, bandages, and cleaning people up.
It’s being stretched beyond our limits.
It’s carrying responsibilities we were never fully trained, supported, or compensated for, yet learning anyway because if we don’t step up, nobody else will.
It’s missing holidays, birthdays, meals, sleep, and time with our families just to help someone else’s loved one make it back home.
And when we finally ask for help for safer staffing, better patient care, safer working conditions, fair compensation, and protection from workplace violence, too often our voices are ignored.
The reality is heartbreaking.
Many nurses are leaving the profession they once loved because the system continues to drain the very people holding it together.
Yet despite all of that… we still show up.
We show up on your best days and your worst days.
We advocate for you when you cannot speak for yourself.
We push you to keep fighting when you feel like giving up.
We celebrate your healing quietly while carrying countless losses privately.
So this Nurse’s Week, don’t just appreciate nurses for one week.
See us. Hear us. Protect us. Fight for us the way we fight for you every single day.
Because just like our patients, nurses also need care too.
To all my fellow nurses: I see your sacrifices, your exhaustion, your strength, and the love you continue to give despite everything.
Happy Nurse’s Week. 🤍

Jennifer Sharron’s journey at Northern Lakes College (NLC) demonstrates how transformative education can empower individuals to redefine their futures. As a dedicated homeschooling mom and former bookkeeping professional, Jennifer sought a flexible learning environment that would allow her to advance her career while remaining actively involved in her family’s life. Reflecting on her decision to enrol, she explains: “I enrolled at Northern Lakes College because I was looking for an option to advance in my career while still being able to homeschool my children and continue to work.”

Thank to the Town of Athabasca outside services.
Recently our seven Town of Athabasca Public Works staff joined by the two Utilities staff have been working up to 17 hours a day to open up all the roads, streets, walkways, parking lots, etc after our recent unusually large dumps of snow. There have been lots of calls of complaints but considering the few employees, problems with equipment, scheduling trucking and ensuring the daily work still gets completed, I think the staff should get a huge THANK YOU for all their work. People don’t realize there is a requirement to clear the roads to the RCMP, Ambulances and Hospital before they clear the roads to the Seniors homes, schools, main shopping areas and then they clear the streets in neighborhoods. So often we complain when it affects us directly but we fail to realize there are reasons the routes are predetermined to ensure the safety and well being of all citizens in the order of greatest need.
Highway 2 and 55 through town are cleared by AB Transportation via Emcon at various times each season in addition to their regular highway maintenance and I thank them as well. I know the sledders are loving the amount of snow but let’s hope the snow comes down at a more reasonable rate so everyone can keep up. It has melted a bit but my snow piles beside my off street parking is taller than me!
Thanks Town of Athabasca Staff - your dedication and work is appreciated!
