When education involves and inspires the entire human- body, mind, heart, and spirit- then the whole individual blossoms, the whole community blossoms and the whole world blossoms in goodness. Music and the arts teaches to the whole human being and community, like nothing else.
Last year, I spent three afternoons each week teaching Fiddle Strings classes at AEC Elementary school. The program was free. Sixty children in grades 3-4 signed up voluntarily and gave up their lunch time every week. Unfortunately, AEC was not able to host the program this year due to shortage of classroom space (why did we close down all of our small county schools and consolidate!?). Unfortunately “The Performing Arts” room at AEC is now designated for overflow gym classes.
Thankfully, one of the surviving smaller schools in our county, Maryvale, has welcomed the Fiddle Strings program this year! I will be stopping in this week to meet and recruit students. Thank you to HM MacDonald school for your generosity and wisdom! 🎶 ♥️

Our Beginner Strings Class is starting up again, this Thursday, for children ages 6+. There are still a couple spots available for children who want to begin their strings journey, on violin/fiddle, viola or cello! In these fun group classes, children will learn the foundations of musicianship, technique, improvisation, music reading skills and the joy of making music together.

Join our ensemble and musical community, Folkestra Antigonish! Fiddlers and traditional musicians on various instruments welcome.
We play music from many folk traditions, including but not limited to Celtic, Canadian and Cape Breton. All playing levels welcome and no audition required.

Our fun Adult Beginner Strings Class begins again on September 9th- for all fiddlers playing violin, viola and cello! Recommended for those with 0-3 years experience who want to build a great foundation of technique and music reading skills. We meet Wednesdays from 5:45-6:30pm weekly. With a focus on Celtic folk music, the skill building in this class can be applied to classical or any style of music playing. Classes instructed by Rebecca Wild, a classically trained musician with a BA in Education and Music and strings teacher for more than twenty years.

We had a marvellous time at the Antigonish Heritage Museum Ceilidh, this past week! Students of WMS and members of the Folkestra Ensemble played beautifully and we all enjoyed the lovely event. Thank you very much to Barry Mac and the Heritage Museum for hosting these wonderful ceilidhs and inviting us to play! And thank you to our great audience 😊

We start back up on September 9th, with continuing and new classes.
Our Beginner Strings classes for children/youth and adults are open to everyone, with instruction in violin/fiddle, viola and cello!

You are invited to our upcoming year-end concert, this Saturday June 20th at 3pm! Wild Music School's musicians will offer a fantastic array of music, suitable for celebrating the start of Summer on this solstice day. The concert will feature Folkestra Ensemble, The Fiddle Strings Orchestra, Sunday Singers and performances by ensembles and students in our Strings programs. The concert will be held at the beautiful Pomquet Parish Hall in Pomquet. Doors open at 2:30pm and the concert is by donation. Everyone is welcome!
