We have had to create a NEW page (linked here) for our program! Please like and share!!!
Facebook has really strict rules about name changes and will not allow us to change the name of our old page, even on appeal, so we have had to create a new page. When we first created the page, as a way to stay in touch with participants around the province, we did not yet have a name for the program, so we made a very general name. Now that we have our official name, we want a page that reflects that.
Apologies for the inconvenience!

"One of the most disturbing aspects of her treatment, the woman said, was the reaction she received from a staff member in the emergency department.
'Initially, her response was: ‘oh great, we’re going to have to shut the emergency room down for several hours in order to do a r**e kit…’ (because of the staff who would be required to conduct the examination).'
'I felt, that I wasn’t worthy. I wasn’t worthy of her time. I wasn’t worthy of the emergency department’s time, I wasn’t worthy of any of this, you know, kind of lost in the wind.'"
This is abysmal treatment. All hospital staff should have trauma-informed s*xual violence training. All hospitals should have accessed to specially trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE Nurses). A r**e kit is NOT a waste of time. Furthermore, advancements in forensic science mean that even if you have waited some time to come forward it is STILL possible to collect evidence in a kit. No one should be turned away.

"Hookup culture and the s*xual assault epidemic seemed to be two looming forces on the same campus, in the same bedrooms, existing in parallel but never openly intersecting. In a place where so many of our experiences and dialogues revolved around s*x, there seemed to be no space to talk about s*xual assault."

Such an important article to think about before Frosh/Welcome Week activities begin...
"In a world of stereotypes, the 'drunken Indian' is still a major challenge for Indigenous people even though Indigenous people, on average, drink less than the rest of Canadians. The thought of walking around a wealthy, mostly white neighbourhood, drunk with a bunch of fellow Natives feels ridiculous and unsafe."

"These men are predators because they intentionally and strategically used their power, position, and influence to prey on women and then made sure it got covered up. Letting these men back into the spotlight with a 'comeback' gives them access to the same tools they’ve used to hurt women all over again."

"How long should a man like Louis C.K. pay for what he did? At least as long as he worked to silence the women he assaulted and at least as long as he allowed them to doubt themselves and suffer in the wake of his predation and at least as long as the comedy world protected him even though there were very loud whispers about his behavior for decades."
