StFX Cooperative Education Program StFX Co-operative Education integrates 12-16 months of relevant professional experience into a student’s degree through rotating periods of work and study.

For Students:

Co-operative Education is the best and most recognized way for students of many disciplines to graduate with relevant work experience and avoid the no-job-no-experience cycle. With a co-op education, students have the opportunity to build learning partnerships with industry and obtain 12-16 months of paid, professional work experience to use as 3 credits toward your degree. By joining our program, you are investing in yourself and your future. By the time you are ready to enter the workforce, you are more experienced, more prepared, and more confident. Co-operative Education is an educational model rather than a job placement strategy. Co-op Education promotes continuous learning through the integration of classroom and applied work-based learning. Co-operative Education is a learning partnership between the student, the university and the employer. The student alternates periods of experience in appropriate fields of business, industry, government, social services and the professions and academic studies. For Employers:

What can a career after StFX really look like? The StFX Alumni Speaker Series gives students the chance to hear directly from Xaverian alumni who have taken interesting and sometimes unexpected career paths.

Our next speaker is Ross Thompson ’96, whose career has taken him from Deloitte, where after graduating he began his career as an auditor, to senior finance roles in video gaming companies, a professional basketball team and now technology.

A longtime supporter of StFX, Ross also serves on the StFX Alumni Association Council, helping strengthen the connection between Xaverians around the world and the university.

Ross’s talk, “Just Say Yes,” is about embracing opportunities, being open to the unexpected and saying yes to experiences that can take you places you never imagined.
Come out to the KMC at 5:30 on Thursday, October 1st and hear from Ross and you can also get a chance to see an NBA Championship ring!
