When Montessori learning style meets Eric Carle Number Flash Cards - welcome to our new learning space!

Uma’s Montessori homeschool space is set up in our new place… the very first activity was to put away all the Fraction Insets… which had all fallen out of place during the move…

To introduce the child the idea of fractions as the division of a whole into equal parts. Each circle represents a fraction, which is ‘a breaking into parts that are all exactly the same’.

Pink Tower aim to help develop the child’s visual discrimination of differences in three dimensions. To help develop the child’s fine muscular co-ordination. Indirectly, to prepare the child for later work in geometry through the general observation of the geometrically regular differences in the size of the cubes’ edges, faces, and total volumes. Indirectly, to prepare the child the concept of numbers, in demonstrating the unit difference in distance between the edges of the ten successively larger cubes.

Brown Stairs to help develop the child’s discrimination of differences in two dimensions. To help develop the child’s muscular co-ordination. Indirectly, to prepare the child for later work in geometry through the general observation of the geometrically regular differences in the size of the prisms’ edges, faces, and total volumes. Indirectly, to prepare the child for the concept of numbers, in demonstrating the unit difference in height and width between the ten successively thicker prisms.

Red Rods to help develop the child’s visual discrimination in one dimension. To help the child’s muscular co-ordination. Indirectly, to prepare the child for later work in geometry through the general observation of the geometrically regular differences in the rod’s lengths, faces, and total volumes. Indirectly, to prepare the child for the concept of numbers, in demonstrating the unit difference in length between the ten successively longer rods.

Reselling Montessori Set of Four Cylinder Wooden Blocks

Aim to help develop the child’s visual discrimination of size. Indirectly, to prepare the child for writing, through the handling of the cylinders by their k***s. Indirectly, to prepare the child for later work in Mathematics, through observation of the regular differences in the cylinders.

Sensorial work engages and trains the senses as it prepares your child for mathematics and geometry. The precise equipment allows your child to learn independently, developing their body to brain learning abilities, providing visual and tactile signs of disorder when used incorrectly.

When your child uses the materials, they are free to experiment. Do not correct your child when they are attempting to learn how to use the Knobbed Cylinders. The equipment will show your child where they went wrong. Remember, your child is working with this equipment to learn what ordering something means, so every step is a little presentation. If you feel an urge to correct your child’s work frequently, or help your child when they are engaged in enjoying the process of trial and error, leave the room! This is a self-guided project with specific brain and body development goals that are only achieved through hands-on experimentation. The point of the exercise is not the finished product, but the process itself.

We received new materials, like this hundred board and Uma is fascinated with it - learning the number patterns and sequencing to 100.

“The Hundred Board is a versatile tool in a Montessori prepared environment. It aids children in recognizing numbers, understanding their order, and associating each number with its quantity. The board visually represents number sequences and patterns, such as the sequence of even and odd numbers, the rhythm of numbers ending in zero, and the progression of tens.

Moreover, it introduces the concept of skip counting, a crucial step towards understanding multiplication and division. As children interact with the board, they not only recognize these patterns but also delve into more advanced mathematical concepts. By manipulating the number tiles, they can further explore addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.“

Getting back into the groove over here, pulled out the Sensorial Decanomial, making shifts over here as we are changing gears expanding our learning capabilities!

The child learns to order the squares and rectangles by size and colour to form the square of the Decanomial, in the mathematical presentation when they are older, they will be introduced to the numbers behind this order. At this stage; the focus is on the development of their mathematical minds, preparing the framework for understanding the conceptual.

Uma has started preprimary school and she’s home after school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays eager to get into the new Montessori materials, while I’m running the shop… thinking if there’s any interest for MONTESSORI AFTER SCHOOL PLAY DATES for children aged 4-6 from 3-5pm… inbox me if you’re interested to join us at ours!

Uma and I have been loving going to library every Monday for preschool French activities and book reading with - this program is providing us access to an incredible selection of French children’s books and resources that we are learning to incorporate French literature and practice our French language skills together. We even get to borrow French books for home to read and practice French together during the weekdays too. It’s been wonderful for Uma to be exposed to French environment with other young children and she looks forward going back every week… lucky for us it’s going for another 6 weeks, and sharing this for anyone else who also wishes to join making French language and culture a regular part of your family and young child’s life too!
