SEMINAR OF A LIFETIME

Your Amherstburg Karate Club will have the grand opportunity to welcome Hanshi Akihito Yagi (10th Degree). AKC will be his last stop prior to departing Canada.

ALL AKC U14 & TEEN/ADULT STUDENTS

Student Briefing: Who is Hanshi Akihito Yagi?

Get ready for an incredible opportunity to train with a true living legend of traditional karate.
Here is what you need to know about Hanshi Akihito Yagi and the elite knowledge he brings to the dojo:

Direct Okinawan Lineage: Born in Naha, Okinawa, Akihito Yagi is the grandson of Grandmaster Meitoku Yagi (the founder of International Meibukan Goju-Ryu) and the son of Master Meitatsu Yagi. Having received his first karate-gi at age three, he has spent his entire life immersed at the source of Goju-Ryu.

Global Leadership: He currently serves as the Chairman of the International Meibukan Goju-Ryu Karate Association (IMGKA) and leads the Hombu Dojo, overseeing dojos and practitioners worldwide.

Silver Screen Recognition: Outside of his traditional martial arts achievements, he is globally famous for starring as the lead actor, Giryu, in the critically acclaimed 2007 martial arts film Kuro-obi (Black Belt).

Mastery of Authentic Bunkai and Mechanics: Training with Hanshi Yagi means diving deep into the traditional applications (bunkai) of kata, ancient conditioning methods, and correct breathing dynamics such as Sanchin that form the bedrock of authentic Goju-Ryu.

Self-Defense Focus: His instruction emphasizes karate as a strict art of self-defense, character development, and mental discipline rather than a modern sport.

Bring your absolute best focus, your gi, and a mindset ready to learn straight from the highest levels of Okinawan karate.

AKC U14 & Teen/Adult FALL GRADING

September 26, 2026 — Your Amherstburg dojo successfully hosted our Fall grading session, showcasing exceptional dedication, discipline, and proficiency across all ranks.

Examinations rigorously tested students on fundamental mechanics, traditional Kata, advanced defensive and offensive applications, and continuous sparring. Upholding our core training standards, all eligible candidates participated in live sparring evaluations designed to test composure under physical fatigue, stress, and high-pressure situations.

Through this comprehensive examination format, students not only demonstrate their martial arts aptitude but also develop the mental fortitude, confidence, and resilience necessary to overcome adversity both inside and outside the dojo.

Congratulations everyone!!!
