Meet the engineer who didn't just help design the True Canadian Yurt, she moved into it. Meet Kady.

Kady is a materials engineer on our team, and she's the reason our roof does something most yurts don't. Instead of running beams straight to one centre point, hers run clockwise and counterclockwise: what's called a reciprocal roof. It's stronger, doesn't rely on a central pole, and meets building code across most of Ontario.

Then she tested her own design the honest way, by actually living in it. She’s been steadily building out the kitchen and washroom herself, turning the space from prototype into an actual, permanent, year-round home in Ontario.

It all starts with Baata and his family in Mongolia. Every ger is hand-built and hand-painted from tamarack, Siberian pine & pure sheep wool, the same way Mongolian families have made their homes for 3,000 years.
Once it's ready, we load up and bring it the rest of the way to your door. 🧡

And because every yurt starts with the land, we give a little back: 25 trees planted for every one sold. 🌲

The leaves are starting to steal the spotlight, but don't let your yurt get lost in all that pretty chaos. A few fall check-ins should be done before winter soon knocks on your door:

Give the canvas a once-over for rips, stains or mould. Trim back any branches getting a little too friendly with your walls. Snug up ropes and straps so they're doing their job. And if your door or toono wood is looking worn, now's the time for a coat of varnish.

An hour or two today beats a soggy surprise in spring.

Summer came with a few extra paws around the Groovy Barn. 🐱

We had the sweetest surprise when Муур (pronounced “Muur”) welcomed five kittens into the family. After plenty of tiny adventures and one very cute photo shoot, four have now headed off to their furrever homes.

One little guy is staying behind with Mom, and he still needs a name. We’d love to give him a Mongolian name, so send us your ideas.
