🌞We are well into summer, and we are already seeing back-to-school ads!
So, with that in mind, here are some essential September dates for you to mark on your calendars:

🗓️September 15th, 10am-2pm - Registration Day.
✈️ September 17th - Our first class of the Fall session, "Travel the Right Way".
🎉 September 26th, 7-11pm - Encore's 20th Anniversary Celebration.

June 5th saw a very successful AGM and Volunteer Appreciation Meeting, with reports delivered by our Chair, Francine Lalande, and Treasurer, Sharon McRae.
A great slideshow showcased many of the accomplishments and highlights of the past 20 years.
The slate of directors for 2026-27 was presented by Helena McCuaig and approved by all.
Carol Bellware announced details of our 20th Anniversary celebration, coming up this Fall on September 25th.
A token of our Thanks was presented to our many wonderful volunteers, including Milo Smith, who, after many years, is retiring from leading our ever-popular Photo Club.
We enjoyed stories shared by two WIN participants, and we were entertained by the wonderful musical troupe 'Simply Singing'.
Lastly, to round out a lovely afternoon, we all enjoyed cake, beverages, and lots of talk.

GLENGARRY ENCORE EDUCATION is alive and thriving!!!

Unfortunately, on another local FB page, it was posted that Encore was closed. Sadly, Cornwall Encore, an organization completely separate from GLENGARRY ENCORE, closed its doors earlier this spring. We did NOT and will NOT for the foreseeable future as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary later this September.

As usual, GLENGARRY ENCORE does not offer classes during the summer. Our community organization is totally volunteer-oriented and all of those volunteers - board and committee members, course presenters, hosts, etc. - all take the time to enjoy Glengarry's many and varied attractions and festivities throughout our short summer.
But rest assured, we have another interesting and informative session planned for this Fall. Mark your calendars for our Registration date - Tuesday, September 15th.

And please spread the word - GLENGARRY ENCORE is alive and well - don't let a misattributed rumour sully our name.

Probate and Taxes: Estate's worst enemies - May 25, 2026.

The presentation on probate and taxes saw our largest audience to date, with 72 registrants. Dr Ahmed El-Shaboury works at Assante Capital Management Ltd in Ottawa. He explained the difference between probate fees and final income tax owing and gave some tips on how to minimize both by assigning beneficiaries, maximizing TFSA’s and lifetime gifting. He also talked about how to handle non-registered investments and possible capital gains tax. It was an eye-opener on how important it is to plan ahead so that no more than is necessary of what we leave behind is paid out in income tax or probate fees.

👉👉We have reached the end of the Winter/Spring semester, and our office is now closed for the summer.
