Tadoule Lake bound! Wilderness Safety and Survival training.
Look, wilderness safety and first aid are high stakes skills. There’s no getting around that💪
But if you can’t find a moment to have a good laugh along the way, it might be time to check your internal compass. Morale is just as much of a survival skill as knowing how to start and keep a fire lit, but your attitude… that’s your ultimate tool👌
Stay prepared, stay safe, and don’t forget to laugh!

River crossings don’t have to be scary, you’re just giving the water too much to grab onto!💧
If you walk straight across, the water in the river treats you like a sail and could knock you down. The safest thing to do is to face the current at a 45-degree angle toward the bank you’re aiming for. This cuts the force of the water and keeps your center of gravity locked keeping you stable as you cross! 🙌
Extra tips! Find a sturdy pole to act as a third point of contact and remember to test first!! If you grab a piece of rotting deadfall and it snaps mid river crossing, you’re going for a swim!🤔🥵Also! If you’re wearing a backpack with clips… UNCLIP IT!🔥
At the end of the day, wet boots are better than a trip downstream🤷♀️🙌💦
We’ve all been there… You’re following a trail, and suddenly the woods look a lot different than they did five minutes ago. 🌲
Getting lost isn’t usually from gear failure…it’s from ego failure.🫵 If the terrain doesn’t match your map, S.T.O.P. immediately:
S: Sit. Breathe. Calm the adrenaline.
T: Think. When did you last know exactly where you were?
O: Observe. Check landmarks, the sun, and your surroundings.
P: Plan. If you aren’t 100% sure of the route back, stay put and start thinking about signals and calling for help!
The most important tool you have before you leave the driveway: THE TRIP PLAN!📝
Never head out without leaving a trip plan with a trusted contact. They need to know:
1️⃣ Entry/exit points.
2️⃣ Intended route.
3️⃣ The exact day & time to call for help if you haven’t checked in.
Skill up and remember… if you can’t help yourself you can’t help others!💪
