“I’ve worked with a lot of non-profits, advocating to the policy makers to make changes. But seeing how it works on the other side, it’s eye-opening to witness how the different systems, intersecting departments, and people in government get policy across the finish line. It was very informative and humbling to experience it from this perspective.”

Rebekah Stokes (BGDS '26) worked with the City of Abbotsford on its recent Climate Resilience Plan as a Co-op student with the UFV Centre for Experiential and Career Education . The experience gave her a strong foundation for her future in sustainability.

“We can dream and do whatever we want. We’re worthy of having a voice.”

Marcella Sunshine accepted a Governor General's Meritorious Service medal in June . This recognizes her work in supporting youth, particularly Indigenous youth through many challenges.

She helped develop Valley Youth Peers for Overdose Response (VYPOR) and Visionary Youth Peers for Equity and Revitalization (VYPER). She also played a role in revitalizing the Mission Powwow.

Her work also helps Indigenous youth reconnect with their culture.

The new year has started! Here are some tips to get involved at UFV.

1. If you're looking to join a Club or Association, you fan find a list on the UFV Student Union Society (UFVSUS) website. Listings include contact information: https://www.ufvsus.ca/clubs-associations

2. Find work at student-run organizations such: The Cascade UFV or CIVL Radio

3. Find student or co-op work through the UFV Centre for Experiential and Career Education

4. Find more opportunities for involvement by visiting the Student Experience Office located in the Student Union Building on the Abbotsford Campus.

Timothy has extensive experience in youth leadership, civic participation, governance, and global development. He has led youth engagement initiatives across West and Central Africa, and supported youth-focused programming.

UFV's public art course, taught by .r.friesen, unveiled 4 public arts projects in Mission last week. If you're in the city, head to 2nd Avenue and check them out!

The public art course partnered with the of Mission's Arts & Culture division to produce public arts on 2nd Avenue, including the stairs leading up to Central Elementary.

25 students were involved in the course to produce a mural, staircase art, sidewalk art, and a picnic bench. As part of the process, students had to identify the spaces they were going to use, create proposals, and then present them to a panel.

They have been working hard on the project all summer.

This year's artists include:
