Our shirts are here! Falcon Fridays here we come! All students and staff received their shirts today (some teachers may be handing them out tomorrow!) If your student did not receive one please let me know. Please put their name inside or at least initials as we have so many of the same shirts! Thank you to PAC for helping with this initiative. Incredibly Popular, Super Violent: What Parents Need to Know About Kids and Squid Game 11/08/2021

Hello Alexander families,

I wanted to send a note on behalf of staff to plea with you to consider greater monitoring of technology use at home. More and more students have been coming to school sharing about the video games they play as well as shows they watch on Netflix and Youtube which leave teachers in awe. Many of the games students are reporting to play are rated 18+ or A for Adult, and shows are equally as disturbing.
One show that is gaining chatter is Squid Game. Please take a moment to read the article, https://childmind.org/blog/incredibly-popular-super-violent-what-parents-need-to-know-about-kids-and-squid-game/
What Parent Need to Know About Squid Games to learn more about this show. It is NOT appropriate for students to be watching. Once you finish reading the article, you can explore that website further to learn about the impact of violet video games and shows on developing brains further. Please, we are begging you, please monitor closely what your child is watching and playing.
Often sharing about what they are watching occurs during unstructured times at school. This means at recess or lunch when adults are not always close. This can and is causing problems on the playground and in classes. When this comes up, we find ourselves trapped in a spot where needing to talk about it generates more interest from students who have been monitored and aren't aware of the content of the show or game.
We appreciate your support with this ongoing issue and welcome any feedback you have. Alexander Elementary PAC

Incredibly Popular, Super Violent: What Parents Need to Know About Kids and Squid Game The Netflix murder-fest, Squid Game is clearly inappropriate for children, but they are being exposed to it anyway. What parents can do?

If any Alexander families have family members who served or are currently serving in the military we would love to include their picture in our Remembrance Day ceremony. Please photocopy it or scan and email it to [email protected] or bring the photocopy to your child's teacher. Do not send original pictures as they will not be returned. Please put your child's name and the name of the person who served on the bottom of the photo. Alexander Elementary PAC

Year end letter to parents.

Alexander Elementary, June 22, 2020

I would like to introduce myself. My Name is Maralee Lincoln and I will be the new Principal at Alexander Elementary starting in September. I am super excited to be placed here at Alexander Elementary and look forward to working with all our students and families. I have been covering for Ms. Wallace’s during the 3rd term. I want everyone to know that I appreciate how wonderful your school is. I am completely impressed with Alexander and how the community has handled the pandemic. I have full confidence that we will have developed a school plan for the start of school in September. It is going to be amazing!
I want to thank, students and families, for being so patient and understanding during term 3 of school. It has been an unusual year that has tested our entire community. I am so proud of the Alexander community with how resilient everyone has been. We have remained strong and are ready to enter the next phase of covid-19, the summer. Please stay safe during the summer and continue to practice social distancing and all the recommended safety precautions.
I would like to have a special thank-you to our staff at Alexander Elementary. The teachers and support staff have done an amazing job during the pandemic and have demonstrated that they all very much care about the students in the school. Thank-you for being available to the students at Alexander Elementary.
I want to wish the best to the following staff members who will not be returning in the fall.
Ms. Wallace Alexander’s beloved Principal will be leaving to take on the role as Principal at Prince Charles Elementary. Ms. Wallace has done so many amazing things for Alexander and I know that she will be missed by everyone. I wish her all the best!
Mrs. Costello will not be at Alexander next year. She will be working as a helping teacher with the Abbotsford School District. Mrs. Costello will be greatly missed, hopefully we will see her periodically in her new role.
Mrs. Campbell, Mr. McNarland, Ms. Gillies, Ms. Crowie, Ms. Gaal, Mrs. Fargo,
Mrs. Birring and Mrs. Dhaliwal will also not be at Alexander next year. I want to wish everyone all the best!
A final word to Alexander students: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I am so honoured to be your new Principal; you make me proud to be a Falcon. I look forward to getting to know you next year! Best wishes to our graduating grade 5’s. I know that you will have an awesome time in middle school—please come back and visit. Everyone have a safe and happy summer break.
Until next school year, here’s wishing you love, laughter and learning.
Sincerely,
Ms. Maralee Lincoln Principal
