Laurel Penner (right side of the picture) is the PAC president for AVS. She has been involved with AVS for many years and is in her 13th year of having her children attend AVS. Dawna Austin (left in picture) is the vice-president for AVS PAC and has been doing a fantastic job for the past couple of years. She is an AVS veteran, having more than 20 years of having her kids as students here.
They will be hosting monthly PAC meetings at the school, to discuss what's going on and new and different ideas for learning options; such as field trips in or out of the school, or resources etc. All are welcome to attend and further info as to dates/times will be posted on the site. The meetings are typically held Wednesday mornings at 9:15 am in the portable, just after student drop-off.
Lastly, the PAC is currently running an all-school fundraiser, selling "The Great Little Coupon Book" with local places for take-out and activities. The books are selling for $12 each this year. Each student was sent home an order form last week from classes which also included a list of coupons or promotions in the books. The funds raised will be used, in time, for the 3rd structure on our playground.
If you have any questions/comments/ideas for the PAC for this year, please leave a comment via email: [email protected]

Our student of the month is Natasha Reid. She is in grade five and attends Wednesday classes. Natasha was looking forward to being the oldest grade in our class. Right away on the first day of classes, as soon as she completed her assignment, she was asking to help the teacher and other students. She is friendly and knows how to help others enjoy being part of our class. Last year she wanted to take part in our French language learning activities in class, and we were able to get her to participate at times. This year she is able to participate every week which really helps our other students find
French enjoyable too. Natasha takes care of her schoolwork and has lots of ideas for story writing. She is good at basketball and loves to paint.

Our primary students were quite excited to see the dump truck of dirt arrive last Wednesday to replenish our garden boxes. Thanks for making this project possible!

Since 2018, Emily has been involved in the AVS Blended Learning program, known as the AVS Fusion Program. Currently, Emily is in Grade 10 and has been immersed for the past 2 years in this program which has been developed by AVS and the staff. The Fusion Program allows students the flexibility to learn when and how they choose between online and face-to-face education. Emily enjoys coming to AVS to be in class with her friends and is a joy to teach. She’s positive and enthusiastic about her learning. Emily’s favorite subject is English.
Emily’s hobbies include playing piano and guitar and listening to music. She recently took up skiing. She loves animals of all kinds and would be happy with any pet that you can imagine.
We are grateful to have Emily a part of AVS. Her positive attitude and engagement encourage other students and staff to grow and be our best!
Thank-you Emily for your contribution & smiles.......and allowing AVS to be a part of your journey!

Irelinn is in Grade 1 at AVS and is simply wonderful. She joined our school for Term 2 and learned to make Abbotsford Virtual School her home. It wasn't too long before she got to know the students in her class and was able to make new friends. She responds with kindness and gentleness to her fellow classmates and strives to make everyone feel valued. When we were still meeting in person in class, Irelinn led by example in following directions, striving to do her best in classwork assigned, and completing work without needing to be reminded to do so. Similarly, now that we are all working at home at a distance, Irelinn has kept up the good work! She is completing coursework in a regular manner and has even been doing extra projects, like creating a "Wonder Board" at home and doing fun projects such as showcasing her cake decorating skills or completing different art projects. Thanks for all your good work, Irelinn!

Daniel Austin is a grade 12 student in the Fusion program at Abbotsford Virtual School. He is extremely capable with electronics and 3D modelling, and it is obvious that he spends his own time experimenting and building. We appreciate Daniel for his help with refining the 3D model of our school for our 90-year anniversary tea. He is a helpful person who shares his skills with students in Robotics 11 and is a joy to have in class. He consistently has a positive attitude and is willing to put in the work to accomplish his goals. Keep up the excellent effort.
