STS’ELEMEQW RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL THRIVER’S SOCIETY VIDEOS
Presented by the Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers Society and UFV PARC

Step into a quiet space of listening and reflection at The Reach Gallery Museum, where a series of mini video documentaries feature residential school survivors and thrivers who share their stories of struggle, resilience, and resurgence. The 10–15-minute videos will play on a continuous loop. The films were made with the permission and collaboration of the Sts’elemeqw Residential School Thrivers Society. Drop in anytime to witness these powerful truths and deepen your understanding.

Content Warning: Topics include Residential Schools and the lasting impacts of colonialism.

Xwelítem Siyáya is back this fall.

Rooted in Stó:lō Téméxw, Foundations is a 45-hour, non-credit learning journey invites participants to deepen their understanding of Indigenous–settler relations, responsibilities, and reconciliation through place-based learning, dialogue, reflection, and experience.

The first season begins this October with 17 learning hours across four evening Module sessions and one full-day Workshop.

Legacy of a Lynching — Creating A Resting Heart: Documentary Screening and Conversation

Join UFV’s Peace and Reconciliation Centre, Find You in the Valley, and the City of Abbotsford’s Culture City Program Series for the public debut screening of A Resting Heart, a documentary exploring the ongoing legacies of the 1884 lynching of Louie Sam, a 15-year-old Stó:lō boy.

The film follows John Emmery, a descendant of one of the men responsible for Louie Sam’s murder, as he works to deliver a personal apology to Louie Sam and the Semá:th community. Grounded in the voices and knowledge of Semá:th First Nation and Stó:lō community members, the film invites reflection on accountability, reconciliation, and the difficult work of confronting histories of violence, racism, and colonial injustice.

The screening will be followed by a conversation and Q&A with Grand Chief Clarence “Kat” Pennier, Chief Dalton Silver, Dr. Keith Thor Carlson, John Emmery, and Desiré Kokuvi Amouzou.
