Free El Sistema Style Music Education We believe that music is of great benefit to young people, improving academics, self-discipline and social skills.
At the heart of El Sistema is a simple idea: using the classical music ensemble experience to promote positive social change in youth. Our program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays in space we rent from the Bakerview Mennonite Brethren Church. Our goal is to make high quality music instruction accessible to children from families who are economically challenged. Our Fugue cellists got to end the year with some instruction by Mr. Julin, who is home from his music studies in Ottawa. They performed Stairway to the Sky (M. Malbec, F. Signwell, arr. Julin Giesbrecht). Enjoy!

What’s better than birthday cake to celebrate an amazing piano accompanist? A surprise birthday cake brought by his mum and sister to share with everyone at music academy!
Our beginner class, the Minuets, transported us to another galaxy with their performance of the Star Wars theme (by John Williams). They worked so hard to learn this piece with Mrs. Jenn (and loved every minute!). They had such confidence and joy performing at the May 26 concert. Bravo!
Fly Me to the Moon (by Bart Howard, arr. Roger Emerson) was a jazzy start to our Out of This World Concert last Tuesday. The Fugues were joined by some of their friends from the FVCC Cantible Choir.

Ms Heidi welcomed the audience to our Out of This World Concert on May 26. Our students were so happy to perform to a big audience. Stay tuned as we share the student performances from that evening’s programme over the next several days.
Our Minuets were the first to perform at our Out of This World concert Tuesday, May 26. They played Also Sprach Zarathustra by Strauss and the French folk song Au Claire de la Lune.

Our Fugue choral students joined their friends from the FVCC Cantible Choir and — directed by our wonderful Ms Heidi — and driven by retired school bus driver Rick — toured three Fraser Valley Schools. They performed for students at John Maclure and Dormick Park Elementary in Abbotsford and then at Yarrow Elementary. Thank you to the schools for welcoming us and to the students for being such good audiences. ❤️

What a fabulous day of music! Some of our BMA Fugues joined the FVCC Cantible Choir (both directed by our energetic and creative Ms Heidi!) for a school tour. They sang at John Maclure and Dormick Park Elementary in Abbotsford and at Yarrow Elementary.
