Exploring the wonders of Xunantunich was more than just a visit — it was a chance to connect with Belizean history, culture, and community. From climbing ancient Maya temples to sharing local meals together, every moment became part of the learning experience.
Through Serve, Learn, and Explore, our students discover that meaningful travel happens when you engage with the people, places, and traditions that make Belize so special. 🇧🇿

"Health care is not about having the newest instruments... It is about creating an environment where your patient feels welcome."

Meet Annie G., a Pre-Health student who took her medical ambitions to Belize! Annie spent her program shadowing local doctors and other medical professionals, gaining the "non-verbal communication and adaptability" skills she’ll need for her future career as a PA.

Her biggest takeaway? Go into every experience with an open mind, even when the bus breaks down, or lunch takes three hours!

Foodways as a Catalyst for Community Harmony and Cultural Resilience.

Belize offers a unique socio-cultural landscape where Indigenous heritage, the African Diaspora, and diverse migration patterns converge.

This multicultural society is perhaps best observed through its food systems, where shared traditions foster a society that lives in remarkable harmony.

Toucan Education Programs utilize these foodways as a lens for Intercultural Learning. Students engage with the "SLE Factor" (Serve, Learn, Explore) by contributing to community-driven projects that respect this delicate environmental and cultural balance.

This summer, students have the opportunity to earn 3 U.S. transferable academic credits from Shenandoah University through summer field-intensive, multidisciplinary programs concentrating on Applied Sustainable Development and Cultural Diversity.

These programs aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the complexities within these fields, using hands-on experiences to connect theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

Note: Priority applications close March 31, 2026.
