Dynamic summer camp facilitated by Garifuna Heart & Soul Foundation located in Hopkins Village, Belize! Our Indigenous Cultural Foundation is focused on promoting cultural preservation as a means to economic upliftment. We are sure that this can be achieved through youth empowerment; educating, fostering good character, and instilling self-confidence and determination in the young populace in Hopkins and surrounding areas to guide them in the path of being productive citizens. Our long term objectives is to ensure that we take a community approach to cultural preservation, cultural tourism and provide educational and entrepreneurial opportunities. We take this opportunity to invite you to partner with us to deliver our second annual BELIZE ENTREP-CULTURAL SUMMER CAMP to approximately 100 Youths in Hopkins Village, ages 11-18 years, scheduled to be hosted between the months of July & August. Below is a brief outline as to the subject areas to be included in the programme:
Culture: Due to the rapid decline of the Garifuna Culture we are seeking to aid in its preservation by introducing the Children/Youths to Garifuna & Music History, Garifuna drum making and playing, Garifuna Language, and Singing & Dance classes. Ecology/Conservation: With the growing need to conserve our natural environment and encourage sustainable usage of our marine and terrestrial natural resources we are aiming at offering lessons in civic pride, farming and conservation with outdoor experience at South Water Caye. Social/Health Education – We are aiming at promoting wellness. Given the fact that:
The youths being catered to are of the age where peer pressure becomes a huge determining factor; in recent times there have been an increase in cases of death from HIV/Aids; and there are also prevailing lifestyle illness like diabetes, high blood pressure etc. The aim is to educate them and encourage the teens to adopt a healthy lifestyle. To top off this segment the Youths will be recipient to inspirational thoughts/advice from
a stalwart in our community who will be task to introduce new ideas to aid in our economic development as indigenous people faced with a fast growing tourism market. Arts & Craft – As a means of sustaining the annual program and learning lifelong skills, the participants will be introduced to the making of Garifuna accessories/jewellery, souvenirs and gadgets. To ensure accountability we are providing a list of needs and related cost that you may choose to sponsor/aid with a line item of choice or simply contribute what can be afforded in cash or kind to ensure that the project will be a great success with your assistance:
