Over the past few months, To***co Caye Marine Station has had the privilege of welcoming incredible students groups from across the United States to learn, explore and connect with Belizeโ€™s marine ecosystem. ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฟ

Our student groups got to indulge in the magnificent experiences of snorkeling our vibrant coral reefs, lush seagrass meadows, and biodiverse mangrove forests. While doing that, they got hands-on experience in learning how to do coral reef assessments, seagrass monitoring, marine pollution management and lionfish dissection to measure the impact they are having on our coral reefs. ๐Ÿชธ๐Ÿกโœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿ“‹โ™ป๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ

A huge thank you to the students and educators from Emory and Henry University, Loyola University Chicago, Hamline University, Drake University, University of Wisconsinโ€“Madison, St. Vincent Pallotti High School, Centre College, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and Hilton Head Preparatory School, along with our partners World Leadership School and Center for Engaged Learning Abroad, for making these experiences possible. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸšŒ

Weโ€™re grateful to share Belizeโ€™s reefs, seagrass and mangroves with the next generation of ocean stewards. ๐Ÿข๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿš

06/03/2026

To***co Caye Marine Station will be participating in the with an interactive educational booth focused on coral reef conservation in Belize. Our team will showcase the important work we do through our core projects, including marine pollution management, mitigating invasive lionfish, and coral reef monitoring and reef health assessment. ๐Ÿšฏ๐Ÿก๐Ÿชธ

Visitors will be invited to participate in fun, hands-on activities such as reef fish and coral identification games, a lionfish knowledge challenge, and a plastic sorting activity to learn about marine pollution. Through these engaging activities, aims to inspire our communityโ€”especially young ocean advocatesโ€”to better understand and protect Belizeโ€™s incredible reef ecosystems. ๐ŸŒŠโ™ป๏ธโœจ

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŒŠ

Today we celebrate the women who cross borders, break barriers, and build futures in science. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿชธ๐Ÿ“Š

At To***co Caye Marine Station, we are proud to be a women-led marine research and conservation station, proving that leadership, research, and protection of our oceans are driven by passion, resilience, and dedication. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ โœจ

Aysha ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฝ originally from Mexico, left her home country to pursue her passion for marine science. After leading numerous conservation, restoration, citizen science, environmental education and research projects, she continues her mission here in Belize โ€”protecting marine ecosystems and mentoring the next generation.

Ally ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ฟ left Belize to pursue a degree in Sustainability & the Environment, becoming the first woman in her family to earn a Bachelorโ€™s degree and enter the marine conservation field. She returned home with knowledge and experience to work in the very ecosystems that inspired her as a child.

We are proof that science has no borders โ€”and neither do womenโ€™s dreams. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒบ

Say hi to our To***co Caye Marine Station staff! ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ

๐Ÿชธ Aysha
โ€œMy name is Aysha, I am the Manager of the To***co Caye Marine Station, and I am from Puerto Morelos, Mexican Caribbean. My passion for the ocean is a dynamic forceโ€”rooted in wonder, exploration, and a deep commitment to protecting our most valuable natural treasure. I have a profound connection with the blue heart of our planet.

With 15 years of experience managing conservation, citizen science, environmental education, ecological restoration, and community capacity-building projects, I am now following my dream of working in this beautiful Belizean Caribbean gem. I am excited to contribute with my experience to the richness of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System by helping build a strong bridge between science and community for marine conservation and ocean literacy.โ€œ

๐ŸŒŠ Ally
โ€œMy name is Alexandria, but everyone calls me Ally. Iโ€™m the Environmental Education and Monitoring Officer at To***co Caye Marine Station. Having spent much of my early childhood on To***co Caye, I developed a deep passion for marine conservation and education. As a young girl, I dreamed of one day working at the station, and being here now truly feels full circle. Iโ€™m excited to contribute to protecting Belizeโ€™s marine ecosystems that shaped who I am, and to share that passion through education and hands-on experiences.โ€
