My Virtual City Competition MVC challenges students to imagine, design, and build a better Belize. Students work as a team to pl

The competition challenges students in Standards 4 through 4th Form to imagine, design, and build cities of the future. There are two levels of competition – primary school and secondary school; with 5 teams at each level. Students are working as a team to plan cities using Esri software; research and write solutions to an engineering problem; build tabletop scale models with recycled materials; and present their ideas before judges at 1st Annual “Design Your Own Virtual City” Competition in Belize City on April 25, 2012. This competition is an engaging way to build students’ problem-solving skills. Students participating in The Design Your Own Virtual City Competition:

• Apply math and science concepts to real-world issues
• Learn how to use geographic information systems (GIS) for analysis, planning, and decision making
• Develop writing, public speaking, problem solving, and time management skills
• Research and propose solutions to engineering, social and safety challenges
• Learn how their communities work and become better citizens
• Develop strong teamwork skills
