Tonota Special Education Unit is located in Tonota Primary School which is a government school. It has learners with intellectual disabilities who are categorized into two groups based on their mental abilities. These groups are Stimulation and Pre-Vocational classes.

Stimulation classes focuses on developing gross and fine motor skills as well as speech and language whereas prevoc classes emphasizes more on hands on projects and daily living skills so as to prepare them for transition to vocational training schools and to fit well in the society,.
