INVITATION TO PARTIC**ATE AT THE 3RD JAPAN-AFRICA BUSINESS FORUM

Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC) wishes to invite local businesses to take part in the 3rd Japan-Africa Business Forum from the 29th June to the 8th July 2021.

The Forum, which will be held online under the theme ‘Shaping a New Africa in the Era of COVID-19’, will explore opportunities for partnerships between Japanese companies and the African continent.

A total of six (6) Webinar sessions will be held throughout the daily sessions with discussions touching on investment and business opportunities in Africa as well as providing an opportunity for participants to find potential business partners from Japan.

The six sessions for this Forum are planned as follows;

Session 1: Light up & Power Africa – 29th June 2021
The first session will discuss potential business opportunities and challenges of expanding green energy in national power systems, including off-grid electrification solutions, as well as Japanese technology and experience in green energy.

Session 2: Feed Africa – 30th June 2021
The segment aims to deepen understanding of development challenges in Africa’s food system and value-chains, as well as identify superior technologies and know-hows possessed by the Japanese private sector and opportunities for business partnerships.

Session 3: Industrialize Africa – 1st July 2021
The discussions will be centred around the challenges and chances in the era of COVID-19 concerning structural transformation through promoting digitalization, industrialization, and diversification. The discussion will cover the utilization of cutting-edge technologies, deployment of transformation policies and identification of specific business opportunities.

Session 4: Start-up Session – 6th July 2021
The deliberations will focus on some African start-ups aiming to collaborate with Japanese companies and the start-ups will deliver presentations to find an opportunity to attract interest to them from the Japanese private sector.

Session 5: Integrate Africa – 7th July 2021
The discussions for the day will be on how the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) could be utilized as the main vehicle to deepen regional integration through various measures. Trade Finance will also be discussed as an essential tool in trade.

Session 6: Improve Quality of Life for the People of Africa – 8th July 2021
The session aims to deepen an understanding of the development challenges in the African quality of life as well as identify superior technologies possessed by the Japanese private sector and business opportunities therein.

Overview
We have identified 2 areas (entrepreneurship development and employability) in which we believe we can best achieve our purpose, to drive Botswana’s growth, while making a positive impact on society, the economy and the environment (SEE). We selected the 2 areas entrepreneurship development and employability based on their relevance to our core business as a provider of financial products and services; and the priority needs of Botswana’s national strategic goals of developing the youth as a key segment of the population. This further includes targeted support to enable SME’s to develop and grow their businesses as is the intention of our newly developed preferential procurement framework under ACCELER8.
